We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-driven Full-Time Permanent Synthetic Organic Chemist to join our LGC Analytical Standards team. This position is based at CDN Isotopes in Montreal, QC and reports into the Sr. Lab Manager.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, the Synthetic Organic Chemist demonstrates outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. The Synthetic Organic Chemist will perform simple to complex organic synthesis on various scales, working with deuterium labelled compounds. This individual possesses strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Perform the synthesis of a wide range of organic products labelled with isotopes
  • Set up and organize equipment and reactions so they operate in a safe manner
  • Plan, develop and troubleshoot complex multi-step syntheses
  • Expert knowledge in carrying out a wide variety of organic laboratory techniques including, but not limited to, water and oxygen sensitive chemistry, purification techniques, modern organometallic and organic synthetic methods
  • Experience working with isotopes would be an asset
  • Perform process development and research
  • Develop methods for separating complex mixtures and using fundamental techniques and advanced purification techniques such as ion-exchange chromatography, reverse-phase chromatography, and automated purification methods
  • Ability to work on several different projects of varying lengths and complexity
    Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD en chimie organique ou MSc en chimie organique avec 3+ années d’expérience professionnelle
  • Grande attention aux détails
  • Autonome : axé sur les tâches avec la capacité de gérer plusieurs tâches simultanément
  • Flexible et adaptable aux délais changeants et aux modifications du flux de travail et des attentes
  • Connaissance de haut niveau des réactions organiques et de leurs mécanismes
  • Forte capacité à rechercher la littérature chimique avec SciFinder et d’autres ressources
  • Un permis de travail canadien valide est obligatoire

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in organic chemistry or MSc in organic chemistry with 3+ years of work experience
  • High attention to detail
  • Self-starter: task oriented with ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing deadlines and modifications to workflow and expectations
  • High-level knowledge of organic reactions and their mechanisms
  • Strong ability to search chemical literature with SciFinder and other resources
  • Current valid Canadian work permit is mandatory
