Description:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. Master’s Degree and CPA preferred.
10 years of accounting experience.
5 years in a supervisory capacity.
Experience with computerized accounting system.
Strong experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.
Experience working with utilities, tribal governments, or public sector organizations preferred.
Familiarity with Navajo Nation financial regulations or previous experience working within a tribal entry.
Valid Driver’s License required (subject to motor record review).
Responsibilities:
Assists the CFO with budgeting, financial forecasting, and strategic financial planning. Provide data-driven insights for decision-making.
Improves staff effectiveness by counseling, training and recommending corrective action for employees; planning, delegating, monitoring, and appraising job tasks and results in a timely manner.
Oversees the management of personnel, which includes work allocation, time approval, hiring, training, orientation, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
Develops measurable performance expectations for assigned staff according to department goals and objectives.
Identifies, develops, and implements standardized accounting policies, procedures, and ordinances in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards.
Directs and manage all aspects of the accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
Oversees the timely preparation of accurate financial reports and statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP/GASB and other regulatory standards.
Leads the optimization of the SAP financial system, driving system improvements to meet the evolving needs of the organization.
Ensures adherence to Navajo Nation, federal, and state tax regulations. Oversee external audits and work with auditors to address any issues.
Develops, implements, and maintains robust internal control policies to safeguard the financial assets of the organization.
Continuously evaluates and improves financial and accounting processes to support organizational efficiency and growth.
Reviews and approves all accounting policies and procedures for compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and with requirements established by funding sources, NTUA, and other governmental agencies.
Serves as a key liaison between the accounting department and other NTUA departments, providing guidance on financial matters and building cross-functional collaboration.
Stays updated on changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and financial regulations to ensure ongoing compliance and operational excellence.
Manages the annual financial reports and the coordination of annual financial audits.
Generate and distribute timely and credible accounting reports that summarize the results of operations.
Prepare and submit regulatory reports on a timely basis, including those required by the Federal and State, and other relevant laws, regulations and agencies.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by: conducting research; attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; and conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
