Serco Maritime Services have a fantastic opening for a Chief Engineer to join our existing team at HMNB Clyde based in Faslane. The role of the Daywork Chief Engineer is to support the Tug Master(s) with all matters pertaining to engineering and electrical operation, maintenance and defect rectification providing maximum usage and time at operational readiness.

As owners and operators of specialist vessels, from harbour workboats to oceangoing support vessels, we provide world class integrated maritime services both in the UK and abroad.
Our vessels provide a range of support, which include for example: dive support, military training, submarine rescue exercises, target/test equipment deployment/recovery and passenger transfers. The Chief Engineer will be solely responsible for the vessel and mechanics and engineering and will work in liaison with the Technical Superintendent and Technical Manager.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Ensure safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all propulsion, auxiliary and deck machinery, electrical appliances, air conditioning, domestic installations, fittings and structures within and out with the machinery spaces and such items as may be detailed by the Company from time to time.
Consult at least daily with the Master to achieve the maximum economy consistent with the minimum efficiency required of the machinery under his charge. He/she must keep the Master promptly and fully informed of any occurrences in the engine room which might affect navigation or the essential services under his control.
Assist the Master to ensure compliance with all relevant Oil and Environmental Pollution Prevention Legislation and to ensure that all responsible Officers are familiar with Emergency Procedures, Contingency Plans and capable of operating all Safety and Pollution Prevention equipment and appliance.
Become familiar with details of vessel’s construction, machinery and operating characteristics.
Be responsible for the overall control configuration of the vessel and all the systems and equipment.
Keep a careful account of all labour coming under his jurisdiction so that contractors’ bills can be checked and to ensure suitable quality of workmanship.
Submit accurate figures to the Master each day, while the ship is at sea, showing the quantities of bunkers, lubricating oils and water consumed and remaining onboard.
Ensure that all Planned Maintenance and both normal and emergency repair work is carried out and reported as required.
Ensure that all work is planned for minimum disruption to the vessel’s overall programme and maximum reliability and availability of the plant.
Keep all engine room records as required by the Company.
Endeavour to maximise efficiency of machinery and equipment.
Ensure that any repair work being undertaken by repair staff under contract is being carried out in a satisfactory manner.
Return to Base Office any Company Reports and Forms agreed by the Company in timely manner. Responsible for discipline of all engine room staff as well as the completion of Appraisal Forms as necessary.
Deal with the administration and upkeep of Classification Society Survey requirements of both hull and machinery.
To give/receive an appropriate and detailed handover when joining/leaving a Company vessel.
To carry-out any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Master or the company.

Responsibilities:

Ch. Eng minimum CoC not less than 6000Kw

Any requisite certification and qualification to fulfil the primary role of the selected individual
Basic Level Management / Leadership training or demonstrable equivalence
Proven history of operating has a singleton in charge. This can be via CV and will be covered during interview
Interpersonal skills to deal with Management & Customer
Knowledge of SMS and the ISM Code.
