Are you ready to propel your professional career to new heights? Vancouver Pile Driving Ltd. (Van Pile) is seeking a Chief Estimating Officer to join our dynamic and growing team. As one of the largest marine general contractors in Canada, we boast a rich history of constructing major marine facilities along the British Columbia coastline and inland waters since 1913.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating estimating teams to review plans and specifications, create bids, select vendors and subcontractors, and evaluate cost-effectiveness.
  • Handling risk and contract management tasks as required.
  • Assessing design options and endorsing the best solution based on cost, engineering integrity, and material availability.
  • Supervising client addenda and guiding the estimating team on changes during the estimation phase.
  • Comparing historical costs and outputs with current cost projections.
  • Providing insights on the overall construction plan, including schedule, constructability, and logistics, and how they impact project expenses.
  • Evaluating and providing feedback on changes in specifications, plans, construction methods, and materials.
  • Ensuring all estimates comply with relevant codes, project specifications, blueprints, and standards.
  • Reviewing final estimates.
  • Managing awarded contracts as needed, which may involve estimating additional work items, change orders, and advising on significant scope changes.
  • Holding post-project debriefings with estimating, engineering, and production teams to identify successes and gain insights.
  • Tracking actual expenditures against estimated costs.
  • Maintaining unwavering dedication to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Qualifications

  • Bring a minimum of 12 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a proven track record of successfully bidding and securing large-scale projects.
  • Previous experience in marine construction (e.g., piers, bridges, docks, berths, dredging) is highly desirable.
  • Hold a B.Sc in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Proficient in software applications including Excel, HeavyBid, AutoCAD, and MS Project.
