The passionate and reputable team at NT Shelter is seeking an articulate and visionary Chief Executive Officer to join the team. This role will drive strategic initiatives and maintain NT Shelter’s reputation as an independent, expert voice in the housing sector.
Northern Territory Shelter (NT Shelter) is a leading peak body which advocates for appropriate and affordable housing for all Territorians. It is a member-based organisation, representing leading organisations across the housing and homelessness sector in the Northern Territory.
As CEO, you will lead a dedicated team, collaborate with key stakeholders, and spearhead innovative policies and programs that enhance housing services for low-income and disadvantaged groups.
Your expertise in governance, strategic planning, and relationship-building will be crucial in advancing the team’s mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement NT Shelter’s strategic direction, working closely with the Board to shape policy positions and guide the organisation’s growth.
  • Advocacy & Representation: Act as the primary liaison with government, industry, and other stakeholders, advocating for policies that enhance social and affordable housing services.
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure the organisation operates in accordance with its constitution, funding agreements, and legal requirements, providing regular reports to the Board.
  • Sector Development: Cultivate strong relationships with housing and homelessness organisations, government bodies, and other peak bodies to drive systemic change.
  • Financial Stewardship: Oversee all business functions, including financial management and resource allocation, ensuring sustainability and accountability.
  • Team Leadership: Provide direction and support to NT Shelter staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

This is a full-time permanent position, subject to Government funding. Based in Darwin, this role requires occasional travel and out-of-hours work both inter and intra state.
You must demonstrate the highest level of ethics and integrity and be committed to improving the housing circumstances for all Territorians.
Applicants must have a driver’s license and be willing to undertake a criminal history check and working with children check.
