Description:
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer for Blue Balloon ABA.
In this role, you will have responsibility to set a financial strategy, budgeting, and processes for a leading ABA therapy company. You will build and lead functions including Controlling/Accounting, FP&A, Billing, Data Analytics, and M&A. You’ll also be closely involved in Strategy, M&A, and Quality Assurance.
Your function will support a business that will grow to of 200+ BCBAs and ~2,000 Behavioral Therapists over the next 2 years.
You will hire, supervise, coach, and mentor a team of dedicated finance professionals. You will also have an external-facing leadership role—presenting to our Board, relevant strategic partners, and externally at industry events.
The ideal candidate combines deep Finance leadership experience, Accounting/Reporting/Tax know how, and excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA, MACC, or other advanced degree strongly preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior financial managerial position.
- Deep knowledge of healthcare financial management and accounting principles.
- Detail oriented, strong organizational, time management, analytical, problem solving skills.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and handle high volume.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Smartsheets, and Quickbooks.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing circumstances while maintaining a positive attitude.
Responsibilities:
Financial strategy:
- With CEO, lead payer strategy including what payers to contract with, analytics to support rates negotiation, and actual negotiation; maintain ongoing strategic relationships with payers.
- Lead opportunistic M&A strategy and valuation of any assets.
- Set overall financial strategy—when and where to finance, banking support, lines of credit, and so on.
Budgeting and accounting:
- Manage accounts payable decisions and execution.
- Oversee the annual budgeting cycle and ongoing review and reforecast, including the building and maintaining of financial models.
- Provide strategic input to CEO and functional leaders to shape budgeting and investments. Monitor financial performance and ensure adherence to the budget.
- Regularly review actual spend against budget amounts.
- Lead the monthly close and drive a timely, precise financial reporting process, master journal entries, reconciliations (e.g., accounts, balance sheet, etc.), ensure tax compliance (e.g., tax liabilities), conduct variance analysis.
- Manage quarterly and annual tax filing processes and strategy.
Revenue cycle management:
- Manage insurance registration, patient authorization, and employee credentialling to enable billing and collection in line with work performed.
- Set and maintain billing strategy for timely and accurate billing; manage denials and resubmissions; apply learnings to improve future collections.
- Be responsible for A/R reporting and efficient collections, including payer relationships,
- Proactively identify opportunities for improving the processes and systems to enable more efficient and effective billing and AR.
Payroll:
- Oversee end-to-end payroll process and ensure payroll is executed each cycle with accurate payouts.
- Support the interface with IT vendor, software and process transformation.
Audit, Compliance and Risk Management:
- Coordinate and manage internal and external financial audits, ensuring compliance with standard accounting practices and applicable laws and regulations.
- With clinical leaders, provide quality assurance oversight and manage payer and regulatory audits to ensure compliance.
- Identify and manage financial risks, ensure the organization’s financial policies and procedures are compliant with regulatory requirements.
