We are hiring for an important and unique role of Chief Financial Officer with operational leadership responsibility. This role will oversee the hospital’s financial strategy, drive revenue growth, and manage costs. This role will be an active leader interacting with our Board of Directors, Executive team, and with leaders and staff across the hospital. In addition, this role will have operational oversight of several departments including: Finance, Revenue Cycle, Information Systems, Purchasing, Dietary, Facilities, Social Work/Care Coordination, and the Security Team. The ideal candidate will have extensive financial experience along with experience leading operational teams to achieve successful organizational outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Background Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; Master’s degree preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Healthcare accounting and industry experience required
  • Knowledgeable about Missouri and Illinois Medicaid reimbursement for hospitals
  • Five to ten years of progressive executive management experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements
  • Experience with strategic financial management including productivity and cost accounting
  • Treasury management experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required. Exceptional written and verbal communications skills and the ability to work well with the public, board, staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to work in a team- based environment and manage multiple operational functions.
  • Ability to manage conflict and find creative alternatives to difficult situations.
  • Ability to plan strategically, analyze, and use good judgment to make difficult decisions.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priority projects and attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  1. Leads by exhibiting ethical and professional behavior consistent with the mission and values of Ranken Jordan. Maintains a community image that reflects positively on the organization. Preserves the vision, mission, and values of Ranken Jordan.
  2. Directs the fiscal functions of the hospital and foundation. Develops and implements written policies and procedures for the Finance Department, establishing and maintaining accounting standards to ensure maintenance of effective internal controls to assure safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial statements. This includes but is not limited to: providing accurate and timely financial reports, preparing annual budgets and monthly financial statements, reviewing of all accounting functions (Payroll, AR, AP) through a compilation review.
  3. Leads the following departments: Finance, Revenue Cycle, Information Systems, Purchasing, Dietary, Facilities, Social Work/Care Coordination, and the Security Team, including hiring, assigning duties, and evaluating performance. Provides ongoing coaching, training and development to leaders.
  4. Works with technology platforms to include: OI health for cost accounting system, Great Plains for finance software, Prophix for budgeting software, Oracle for our electronic medical record, and UKG Human Resources Information System/Payroll, etc.
  5. Actively collaborates with leadership team in achieving the strategic vision for the hospital. Ensures financial reporting system provides useful and accurate results for leaders.
  6. Manage costs effectively across the organization without compromising the quality of patient care, identifying areas for efficiency improvements, and cost reduction.
  7. Proactively recommends solutions and assesses the financial impact of potential opportunities.
  8. Prepares and coordinates for accounting audits of hospital records, and prepares reports required by regulatory and accreditation agencies.
  9. Coordinates and develops annual operating and capital budgets and meets financial targets. Communicates budget variances, including recommendations and actions to be taken to correct.
  10. Fosters ongoing relationships with federal and state government agencies along with state hospital associations. Understands the regulatory and political environment and changing healthcare payment and delivery models. Performs ongoing analysis of legislative policy changes and their potential impact to the hospital.
  11. Ensures ongoing compliance with regulations of local, state and federal agencies.
  12. Negotiates and manages contracts with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and other payors to secure favorable terms that align with the hospital’s financial goals and patient care objectives. Develops controls for monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing revenue. Maintains positive relationships with both commercial and governmental payors. Optimizes reimbursement strategies to maximize revenue while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and policies. Collaborates with the CMO on patient admission decisions to ensure alignment with the hospital’s mission and objectives.
  13. Leads the charge in financial decision-making that supports the hospital’s strategic initiatives and operational requirements, ensuring sustainability and growth.
  14. Serves as staff representative to the Board of Directors Finance Committee, the Board of Directors Executive Committee, and the Board of Directors. Participates in other board committees as needed.
  15. Oversees treasury activities, including debt management, investment strategy, and related external relationships. Executes investment policies as directed by the Investment Committee and interfaces with investment managers.
  16. Attends and participates in various meetings, maintains confidentiality of information, and respects and maintains client and staff confidentiality.
  17. Completes all other duties as assigned by the President/CEO.
