About the Job – Your Role
The Oregon Department of Corrections is seeking a high-level manager to oversee the continuation and modernization of our services for the State of Oregon. This role involves leading efforts to enhance and update our operations, contributing to the overall improvement of the agency correctional services. Our Chief Information Officer manages a large and complex information technology team dedicated to providing services that ensure regulatory compliance, effective data management, rehabilitation support, and stringent security standards. This diverse team, with varied backgrounds and locations, handles functions such as onsite technical support statewide, programming and development, security, and network administration. The systems in use include a comprehensive iSeries COBOL legacy system, web-based Java applications, and a range of vendor-provided on-premises and cloud-based solutions.
In this role, you will provide leadership and oversight for the information technology team, serving as the department’s subject matter expert on technology to the agency executive team. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive modernization program anticipated to unfold over the next several years.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in creating and executing similar modernization strategic plans. Strong communication and project management skills are essential for engaging with diverse stakeholders throughout the transition. Additionally, you should possess the technical knowledge necessary to manage the teams maintaining the integrity of our systems both now and into the future.
This position supervises a section of approximately 100 individuals and supports a department with over 4,500 employees and more than 20,000 system users. The role involves managing a budget exceeding $35 million. The IT Strategic Plan 2024-2029, now in its first year of implementation, was developed in partnership with agency leadership and enterprise services. This plan will serve as the guiding framework for our information technology initiatives over the next five years.
This position is management services and may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.
Minimum Qualifications

In order to be considered, you must have one of the following:

  • Five years of management experience
  • Two years of management experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Working Conditions
This position is a hybrid position which will consist of work from home offices and meetings in Salem, Oregon.
Your role will include travel and off-hour work as necessary in the completion of your work.

About the Process – What to Expect

Requirements for Employment
The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
