Description:

Garfield County Hospital District (GCHD) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to join our Executive Team. This position provides the opportunity to put a personal touch on improving the lives of residents and employees, while leading a staff of dedicated healthcare professionals.
This position leads multiple units within the Hospital, with efforts organized around leadership, strategic planning, focusing on patients, human resources, measurement and analysis, and process management. A successful candidate would strive to continue the person-centered leadership valued at Garfield County Hospital, focusing on communication, accountability, reliability and encouragement. Responsibilities would include, but are not limited to:

  • Guiding and sustaining the organization by participating in setting organizational vision, values and performance expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, develop future leaders and create an environment that encourages ethical behavior and high performance.
  • Participating in the strategic planning process in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.
  • Actively seeks to understand the voices of patients, with a focus on meeting patients’ needs and expectations.
  • Effectively measure, analyze and review performance with the Executive Leadership team
  • Manage organizational knowledge to drive improvement and competitiveness, with specific attention to performance as a health care provider.
  • Address key human resource practices directed toward creating and maintaining a high-performance workplace and toward developing staff to enable them to enable them to adapt to change.
  • Lead HR development and management requirements to ensure they align with the organization’s strategic objectives and action plans.
  • Overseeing all clinical processes in the organization that support the delivery of healthcare.

The successful candidate would have their current RN license by the Washington State Board of Nursing, ACLS, PALS, TNCC and BLS.
Five years of practical acute care and/or emergency nursing expertise required, and critical access and swing bed experience are preferred. Other requirements include experience as a charge nurse or supervisory nursing position, experience in staffing, clinical operations, labor budget management, community relations, quality assurance and risk management. Demonstrated management experience required.
Skills should include the ability to tolerate a full range of activities in a fast-moving service-oriented environment, ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of personalities, ability to write speeches, procedures and financial reports, ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to problems, be comfortable working with Microsoft programs, and able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
GCHD is a rural hospital located in Pomeroy Washington. We offer 25 beds, an emergency department, lab services, imaging services and a medical clinic to our local community and beyond. GCHD originally opened its doors in 1948, on land the local community donated to the city. In 1999 the hospital became the first critical access hospital in the state of Washington.
