As a trusted advisor, working closely with the Head of Tax & Legal and the broader Tax Partner group in particular, this role requires a highly resourceful individual, with strong emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and strong analytical skills providing strategic advice to improve the daily management of the organisation and also assist in the execution of various special projects which have the potential to significantly impact the organisation.
About the Role

The Chief of Staff role encompasses a Strategy & Operations leadership role for the Tax & Legal Practice and is a strategic and critically important position enabling the Tax Practice to effectively;

  • Set and execute strategic vision and plans.
  • Drive operational effectiveness.
  • Improve quality of practices in collaboration with our central business functions such as operations, finance, growth and others.

This Director level role requires a combination of management experience in strategic, financial, and operational aspects of organisations, focus and flexibility, as well as a willingness to play an active, supporting role.

  • Preparation for and/or facilitation of leadership meetings and working sessions.
  • Ensuring that objectives are realistic and preparation/content is appropriate including assisting leaders in their preparation.
  • Capturing major take-aways, monitoring progress/achievement of next steps.
  • Development of strategies (in alignment with Global Tax & Legal, North South Europe, and overall firm strategies) and management of a portfolio of strategic projects
  • Working in conjunction with NSE/Deloitte EMEA/DTTL counterparts for common strategic initiatives, including international meetings
  • Developing strategic and annual plans including budgets
  • Ensuring alignment among various stakeholders, understanding breadth as well as details of projects
  • Monitoring progress and apprising leaders of status
  • Proactively identifying, prioritizing, and addressing complex business issues or opportunities
  • Leadership and management of special complex projects with multiple work streams and multiple stakeholders, some confidential or time sensitive
  • Scoping, planning and executing multiple, often quick- turnaround projects with minimal outside assistance.
  • Collaborating with functions such as operations, finance, marketing, others at country, region or global levels.
  • Development of content for leadership-level communication with various stakeholders including country, regional and global and external stakeholders.
  • Outlining, drafting, and/or researching in support of each communication, including coordinating with others who might be involved.
  • Recruitment and development of team members
  • Acting as coach to staff members and provide day-to-day oversight and management.

About You

To be considered for this position, you must demonstrate skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher (MBA preferred) in business/managerial disciplines.
  • Significant experience within a strategic planning/organisation’s development function in a global organisation
  • Excellent strategic thinker and good decision maker, with demonstrated strategic consulting or related experience.
  • Ability to understand, create and analyse financial information and budgets to help oversee the financial performance of the business.
  • Ability to handle sensitive leadership information with the utmost confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing a cross functional team; an ability to supervise and direct activities of others that do or do not report to them.
  • Able to successfully navigate within varying degrees of ambiguity in fast-paced, global and matrixed environment.
  • Strong strategic/analytical skills with ability to move between highly varying levels of abstraction.
  • Ability to deliver under pressure and provide informed responses to leadership in short time frames.
  • High degree of comfort working in an environment that requires solving complex, open-ended issues with incomplete data and little direction.
