Description:
Key Assets Newfoundland and Labrador (KANL) provides family-based and alternate care along with a wide variety of programming and other services to support children, youth and families. Working in partnership with statutory bodies, KANL strives to develop creative and innovative programs for the provision of unique and supportive services, tailored to meet the needs of children, youth, and families, and designed to work towards improving outcomes. KANL is currently recruiting permanent full-time, permanent part-time and casual child and youth care workers in Burin, NL
We are looking for innovative and creative child and youth care workers to provide care, supervision, and support to young people with complex needs. The work is varied and will include relationship building, planning, and participating in social and recreational activities including land-based activities, teaching life skills, providing educational supports and developing and implementing individualized intervention plans.
The successful applicants must be confident, energetic, adaptable, patient, self-aware, physically active, and able to safely intervene in crisis situations. Shift work, including weekends, is required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
To be successful in this role, the candidate is required to have:
- A minimum of 2-years’ experience in a providing support, mentorship, coaching, teaching, and guidance.
- Familiarity in working with young people that have experienced trauma, and present with challenging and complex behaviors.
- A diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, work and volunteer experience in a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to work therapeutically with children, youth, and their families with an ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Understanding of family functioning and group dynamics, trauma-informed practices, behavior management techniques, and excellent communication skills.
- Standard First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain).
