EveryMind Mental Health Services (formerly Peel Children’s Centre) is looking for a committed and passionate Child and Youth Counsellor. Our Live in Treatment Program provides a safe, accepting, supportive environment for temporary live-in treatment of children experiencing serious emotional, behavioural, or relationship difficulties. Located in Caledon in a peaceful campus, the Live-In Treatment Program operates 24 hours a day and provides treatment to clients in a home like setting.
EveryMind is an accredited child and youth mental health centre that provides a continuum of high quality mental health services for children, youth and their families who are experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioral challenges.
The Child and Youth Counsellor is a member of a multidisciplinary team and is assigned as a Primary Worker to a client. The Counsellor must ensure the safety and well-being of all clients in the Program and must maintain the integrity of the treatment model for services in keeping with the agency Mission Statement, values, clinical philosophies and Service Plan.
The Counsellor works 8 and 12 hour shifts between the hours of 7am and 11pm, on a 6 week rotation. Shifts are scheduled during the full week; inclusive of some weekends.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Child & Youth Worker diploma with a minimum of one year related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Have a proven understanding of a milieu environment and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Strong engagement and assessment skills with clients and families;
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of mental health issues and the ability to apply trauma focused support;
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize a strengths-based approach and work from a trauma informed lens;
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, to support clients from diverse populations;
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, manage, implement, and design crisis plans;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of client care information systems and MS-Office, Outlook and Internet use;
  • Have a valid G Class Driver’s License, Current First Aid Certification and UMAB Certification;
  • A Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check and Pre-Employment Medical screening (including TB test, MMR, TD, Polio, Covid-19 vaccination), is required;

Responsibilities:

The incumbent will:

  • Maintain the integrity of the treatment model for live in treatment services by maintaining knowledge of individual client case histories and treatment plans and ensuring implementation of the treatment plans, in keeping with the agency clinical philosophy;
  • Work collaboratively with other program staff, case managers, clinicians and clinical consultants, ensuring the effective implementation of treatment for each client;
  • Actively contribute to the provision of a safe, caring, therapeutic environment for each client ensuring adequate care and sensitivity to cultural preferences;
  • Facilitate treatment groups, as required;
  • Transport clients as required and problem solve transportation issues;
  • Support the program by ensuring meal preparation and maintenance of the program site;
  • Dispense medications to clients as per physician’s medication orders;
  • Ensure clinical records and statistics are completed in accordance with agency standards and time-lines;
  • Effectively design, and implement a crisis plan to ensure safety within the milieu setting;
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with required and relevant legislation including all Health and Safety legislation to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for staff and clients;
  • Plan, coordinate and participate in special events and recreational activities with clients.
