Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction and supervision of the Early Childhood Director, and in harmony with the Christian nature and purposes, and the established policies, goals and objectives of the YMCA of Coastal Carolina, the Child Care Teacher shall be responsible for directing all aspects of classroom curriculum and program activities. The Teacher supervises and guides a childs development in a safe and healthy environment. Staff schedules are set at the time of employment but are subject to change by the supervisor based on the needs of the center.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prefer one of these certifications: Bachelors Degree in early education, Bachelor of Arts, Associates Degree or Department of Early Education Certified Lead Teacher Certification or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • At least 20 years of age.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and assigned Redwoods trainings within 30 days ofhire date
  • Child Abuse Prevention supports the YMCAs commitment to child abuse prevention by:
  • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor
  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
  • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriateprogram activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Possess the ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from all different background

Responsibilities:

  1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  2. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  3. Supervise the children, classroom, and all activities.
  4. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  5. Conducts parent conferences, maintains positive relationships and effective communication
    with parents, and engages with parents and volunteers.
  6. Maintains classroom space and equipment.
  7. Maintains required program records.
  8. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  9. Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  10. Attends required abuse risk management training.
  11. Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  12. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  13. All other duties as assigned
