Description:
Heritage Family Services is hiring full-time Child and Youth Care Workers for programs based in Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
Shifts range from 3 on 3 off – 8-hour to 12-hour shifts.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Post-secondary education (or enrollment) in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field is preferred.
- A Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector Check), Child Intervention Check, Class 5 Driver’s License, and a Driver’s Abstract (with fewer than six demerits) are required for employment.
- Understanding and respect for Indigenous traditions and culturally appropriate care.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse communities and individuals from marginalized identities and experiences.
- Familiarity with inclusive terminology, gender identities, and pronouns.
Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are looking for candidates who are described as authentic, service-focused, responsible, organized, and outgoing. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build healthy relationships with children and youth using a trauma-informed approach.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build trusting relationships while respecting individual needs and identities.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment by following safety protocols and supporting emotional stability.
- Facilitate day-to-day routines and youth-centered programming.
- Assist with meal preparation and support youth in developing life skills.
- Celebrate and promote the development of the youth’s self-concept.
- Advocate for children and youth, ensuring they have access to the Child and Youth Advocate.
- Provide a supportive and nurturing environment tailored to the emotional state of each youth.
- Help youth develop social, cognitive, and self-regulation skills.
