QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred education is a Bachelor of Social Work with at least four (4) years of related supervisory experience in a child protection environment. Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers must be in good standings.

PREFERENCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCE IN:

  • Child protection responsible for providing a full range of child protection duties delegated under a provincial or equivalent child welfare legislation.
  • Hold current delegation under the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act in Alberta and have the related skills, abilities, knowledge and experience to be delegated.
  • Safety Phase and Intake Workflow.
  • Leading and managing a diverse team that does complex work.
  • Managing systems and processes including performance management, budgeting, and forecasting processes, human resources.
  • Extensive experience working with Indigenous and diverse communities.
  • Developing, evaluating, implementing policy initiatives, programs, and services.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build effective partnerships with internal and external customers, clients, staff, and stakeholders essential to this position.
  • Strong planning, analytical, issues management and consultative skills are required.

  • Proficient computer skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Share Point
  • Working knowledge of the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act, Child Intervention Practice Framework, Signs of Safety.

Responsibilities:

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

If you are ready to take your career to the next level, the North Region is offering an impactful opportunity for a Manager, Child Intervention (CI).
As a Child Intervention Manager, you will lead and oversee the delivery of quality intervention services and programs for children, youth, and families. Your leadership ensures alignment with regional and ministry goals, compliance with relevant legislation and standards, and effective program implementation. In this role, you will guide a shift from a child protection mindset to fostering healthy families and communities through collaboration and partnerships. You will also apply a system-thinking approach to deliver culturally appropriate, safe services, with a focus on Indigenous communities by integrating Indigenous ways of knowing with western practices. Additionally, you will employ diverse strategies to foster and evaluate meaningful working relationships.

In addition other key responsibilities of the manager role are:

  • Provide leadership, guidance and support, to a team of of front-line staff.
  • Ensure services delivered are aligned with the key strategies and business goals of the region.
  • Reflect and uphold the vision of the region, department and ministry, and comply with appropriate legislation, regulations and provincial standards, regional policies, and fiscal targets.
  • Champion the implementation of programs and new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the ministry and the region.
  • Support the shift in mindset from child protection to healthy families by developing positive communities, promoting collaborative partnership to achieve better outcomes for children, youth, and families.
  • Applying a system thinking approach by considering trends in various program environments and keeping broader impacts and connections in mind, to ensure culturally appropriate services are delivered to children and that they remain safe.
  • Utilizing your experience of working with diverse communities and populations to be confident in employing a variety of different diversity and inclusion strategies to initiate, support and evaluate working relationships.
  • Demonstrate anti-oppressive practices in your work with urban and rural Indigenous communities and will have the ability to combine Indigenous ways of knowing with standard western approaches to working with people.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • This role requires that you have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle. Employees will be required to use their own vehicles when government fleet vehicles are not available.
  • The ability to travel within the region is required.
  • As per the Health Professions Act successful applicants must be registered and maintain their registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
  • Must hold current Delegation under Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act in Alberta.
  • Candidates must have completed or be in the process of completing the Foundations, and Relationship and Culture pathways in the Ministry’s ICUF to be considered for the role. You may be asked to confirm training completion as part of your application.
    The final candidate for this position will undergo appropriate pre-employment checks including academics check, intervention record check and provide a suitable security screening.
