Description:

Supporting children, youth and families within the Client-focused models of Child and Youth Advocacy Centre Services, this position provides culturally sensitive, child and youth focused care to victims of child abuse and/or witnesses at Alisa’s Wish Child & Youth Advocacy Centre. This role serves as the family’s liaison from intake at the CYAC to file closure and works collaboratively with the CYAC Multidisciplinary Team of Community Partners to ensure wraparound service. The position supports the child/youth/family through the investigative, prosecution and treatment of child abuse and acts as the communication hub between the child/youth/family and the cross-section service professionals for service coordination and case management. The Advocate is responsible for written documentation, data collection, liaising with the supervisor, Ministry of Children & Families social workers, RCMP, and other community professionals as required.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Integrate the Alisa’s Wish CYAC as well as the Community Services’ Mission Statement, Core Values, Operating Principles and Code of Ethics into the daily job responsibilities.
  • Maintain team and professional skills/knowledge.
  • Develop, implement and monitor client goals and outcomes in conjunction with the client, parents and social workers.
  • Ensure all contracts and client files are in good standing order, completing all hours & submitting any/all Community Services’ reports/forms as required.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned and determined in consultation with the supervisor.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • An advanced degree in social work or a comparable human service field from an accredited

institution and at least two years’ direct program delivery experience in family and children’s services; and or

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work or another human service field from an accredited institution and at least three years’ post-degree direct program delivery experience in family and children’s services.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of victim advocacy, the child welfare system, youth/criminal justice system, related provincial legislation, and child protection acts is preferred. Court experience is desirable.
  • Knowledge of community resources required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Clear Criminal Record Check is required.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Valid and unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s License with access to a safe and reliable vehicle.
  • Clear Driver’s Abstract (provided annually).
  • Position requires Union Membership.
    Shift/Schedule/Hours per week: 15 hours per week

    Wage/Salary: starting at $40.03/hour
