Contract length: Ongoing
Hours of work per week: 24 hours per week
Shift: Monday to Thursday (9:30-11:30am and 1:30-4:15 pm) and Friday (9:30-11:30am and 1:30-4:30pm)
Position type: Non-union casual, part-time
Rate of pay: $23.00 per hour + 4% Vacation pay

About the Early Learning Centre
Toronto Metropolitan University’s Early Learning Centre is a licensed early learning and child care program associated with the School of Early Childhood Studies at TMU.
The Early Learning Centre (ELC) provides an exemplary early learning model and child care service to families. As a laboratory school, the ELC supports pre-service early childhood learning, teaching and research initiatives. Our centres encompass a community of children and adults living and learning together.
The Opportunity

This position is responsible for:

  • Prepare, serve and clean up all daily meals and snacks for the children. (Two snacks and one meal daily)
  • Preparing and cooking food and/or serve catered food.
  • Receive, store and maintain the catered food at the correct temperature.
  • Prepare food trolleys for all meals and deliver them to each classroom. Log all temperatures as required prior to serving each meal while complying with public health regulations.
  • Identify and distribute all alternative foods.
  • Demonstrated awareness of food handling best practices to avoid cross contamination and ensure safety for children with dietary restrictions/anaphylactic allergies.
  • Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils and kitchenware after each meal.
  • Maintains inventory of food and kitchen supplies.
  • Launder sheets, towels and blankets daily.
  • Assists educators as requested, helping with the care of children.
  • Maintains compliance with the public health regulations when carrying out all duties and responsibilities.
  • Maintains the health, safety, and cleanliness of the space.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completion of food handler certification is mandatory.
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary certificate program or 2 years of specialized training in food handling would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen is required. Experience working in a childcare kitchen would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to work within a team environment and individually
  • Strong time management and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks and prioritize.
  • Provide a Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the last 6 months.
  • Provide a negative result - TB test dated within the last 6 months.
  • Provide proof of up to date MMR, TDP immunizations and proof of COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Provide a current standard first aid and CPR - Level C certificate.
  • Provide a food handler certification.
  • Provide a clear doctor’s health assessment confirming “fit for work”.
