Description:

PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

  • Promotes and demonstrates respect and value for the Jewish culture and religion, and the vision and mission of the agency within the workplace and in the community
  • Demonstrates positive, respectful and professional relationships within the team, including staff, management, families, volunteers and the community
  • Oversees the program environment to ensure it represents the spirit and operational principles of Tamir
  • Contributes to a positive work environment, by utilizing effective communication skills, conducting job functions with initiative, enthusiasm and sound judgement, and contributes to the team in an organized and productive manner.
  • Ensures that the Executive Director is informed of all incidents/crisis requiring immediate attention
  • Is punctual and dependable in the completion of assigned duties
  • Attends and actively participate in team meetings, eliciting and representing the needs of staff and the children and youth supported within the program
  • Pursues professional development opportunities, including internal training, as approved

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • DSW, SSW, ECE, CYC Diploma or Degree in Social Services, Psychology, Sociology or related field
  • 3 year of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities
  • Valid Drivers License with good driving record
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Knowledge and understanding of a Jewish work environment would be considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, proficient in Excel and Word and a general aptitude for technology
  • Experience with a not-for-profit organization

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • May be required to work alone and independently
  • Physical agility: daily routine requires reaching, twisting, bending, and Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds if required. Lifting, moving or transferring people who require mobility assistance
  • Muscular strain: work involves a variety of positions, but may at times require sitting for long periods. Requires the ability to operate a keyboard and view computer screens for extended periods of time if necessary
  • Mental and Visual Demands: Working with children and youth with emotional, psychological and physical behavioral challenges
  • Hours of work are 20 per week, working Sunday to Thursday. Hours may vary from time to time to accommodate job requirements and to respond to emergency situations

Responsibilities:

PURPOSE OF ROLE

Working within the philosophy of TAMIR, the Children and Youth Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that staff assist children and youth supported to achieve their personal goals and develop skills and a sense of self-worth through an individualized support plan created to meet the children and youth’s unique interests and needs.
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director this position is responsible for carrying out Board policy and is responsible for the day to day operations of children and youth programming, and supporting Residential Services administratively in a manner consistent with Tamir’s vision, mission and values and following the principles of the Quality Enhancement (QE) initiative.
