Description:

Make a huge difference to children with complex respiratory needs in the community?
Funding has been secured for a one year pilot to demonstrate the impact of having community respiratory physiotherapy for children in Oxfordshire. You would work alongside children’s community physiotherapists and nurses and be supported by the Professional Lead for Physiotherapy and Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner in adult community respiratory. You would work collaboratively with teams at the Oxford University Hospital to facilitate early supported discharge and admission avoidance where possible.
You will be responsible for leading this specialist clinical area, and supporting the professional lead with the development of the pilot including scoping the requirements, data collection and analysis.
You will provide advanced respiratory assessment, treatment and escalation plans for patients in homes, schools and clinic settings; providing a comprehensive community based respiratory physiotherapy service for patients with complex health needs, formulated around evidence-based practice and recognised national standards.
This post will include opportunities for service development, research, education and teaching. We are committed to CPD and will work with you to further develop your skills and experience.
Whilst this post is funded for one year, there is the scope that this role will be made permanent.

YOU WILL:
Be a clinical expert in community respiratory paediatric physiotherapy, providing assessment, and individual programmes of care in response to planned and urgent need.
Utilise clinical reasoning skills, knowledge of evidence based practice and expertise to determine appropriate care plans using highly specialist treatment skills and a wide range of treatment options.
Recommend best course of intervention, developing comprehensive management plans, guided by clearly defined principles and policies.
Refer to other healthcare professionals and agencies as appropriate as part of the overall management of the child to ensure holistic care.
Lead the delivery of expert clinical education, training and support to all members of the multidisciplinary team around the child, and their carers (formal and informal) . This will include the clinical use of the specialist equipment and treatment plans in relation to respiratory care.
Use specialist knowledge to make recommendations on appropriate management strategies for a range of complex respiratory patients which may include oxygen therapy, nebuliser therapy, the use of other respiratory equipment (including long term ventilation and cough assist), medication and physiotherapy programmes.
Utilise specialised knowledge to arrange appropriate investigations and to analyse and interpret findings, using results to modify treatment.
Provide clinical opinion and assessment which contributes to the development of clinical pathways in collaboration with other multi-disciplinary leads within the Trust and the community.
This role is county wide, and we can be flexible as to where your base will be within the county.
