We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of CIIOM Country Chief Operating Officer.
The Channel Islands and Isle of Man are strategically important to the HSBC group and this role as the COO is a member of the local Executive Committee and HBEU (HSBC Europe) COO Leadership Team. The role holder is jointly accountable to the CIIOM (Channel Islands & Isle of Man) CEO and HSBC Bank Plc & Europe COO in ensuring effective stewardship of market business strategy development and execution to deliver business growth objectives and meet the PBT target for the market. The role is a registered person with the Jersey regulator (JFSC) with personal accountability and has delegation of SMR (Senior Manager Regime) responsibility from HSBC Bank Plc & Europe COO.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Channel Islands and Isle of Man, supporting the execution of the local goals aligned with the bank’s overall strategic objectives.
  • Build, manage and mentor a high-performing team, with a clear focus on talent development.
  • Oversee day-to-day operational activities and implementation of the Service Pillars, working with relevant stakeholders to resolve any issues identified, mitigate risks, and ensure operational resilience and integrity.
  • Be the single point of interface to Market CEO and Global Business and Functions for Service Pillar delivery and quality. The Service Pillars comprise of Business Management, Transformation, Operations, Technology, CCO, DAO, Corporate Services, and Strategic Procurement Services
  • Maintain expert specialist knowledge to drive innovative and market leading digital solutions aligned with the country, regional and group change agenda, while retaining awareness of operational risk and minimize the risk of it occurring and ensuring that HSBC’s relationships with material risk vendors are well manage.
  • Provide thought leadership to help shape solutions that enable the business to meet customer and regulator expectations whilst ensuring alignment with key strategic priorities across the business, functions and regional counterparts.
  • Accountable for driving and overseeing complex projects and key strategic programmes, and transformation programmes through the effective prioritization, sequencing and execution of growth, efficiency and risk and the fulfilment of HSBCs environmental ambitions.
  • Provide constructive challenge to existing practices/proposed initiatives and generate new and innovative solutions to address complex issues facing the market.
  • Identify and anticipate any market requirements which may impact country compliance with local regulatory requirements. Escalate with relevant stakeholders to address any conflicts and operationalize as required.
  • Navigate evolving internal and regulatory standards and manage operational risk and conduct responsibilities effectively, including progress and remediation activities.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the external environment within the market - regulatory, political, competitor and economic.
  • Demonstrated leadership, stakeholder management and influencing skills up to board-level executives, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels.
  • Experience of operating in an environment of constantly changing priorities, challenging bureaucracy, and staying true to the values and strategy of the Group
  • Demonstrate leadership and subject matter expertise on technology and digital trends, with the ability to provide consultancy to senior business heads.
  • Ability to drive change forward with pace, whilst setting and managing realistic expectations, often requiring critical upfront challenge
  • Demonstrated experience in management and control of multiple complex global programmes / business transformation which have ambitious goals and high change requirements.
  • Outstanding prioritisation and control skills, with ability to critically review and acknowledge when and how to re-prioritise, mitigate, or escalate across market and global businesses and functions.
  • Extensive organisational and planning skills in order to cope with multiple large-scale responsibilities.
  • Well-developed knowledge of operational, non-financial risk and control framework management
  • Ability to manage and mitigate operational risk effectively, balancing the growth agenda with managing risk.
