Job Description :
About You
We are looking for an individual with a drive to be the best: a strategic thinker, a brilliant influencer and a global leader who can bring key external and internal stakeholders and partners together, to enable the development and delivery of circular economy infrastructure solutions across priority categories, markets and globally.
We are looking for a packaging and circular economy leader, who can lead the development of our circular infrastructure strategy, work with external partners to deliver our 2030 Grain to Glass objectives and who is passionate about sustainability.
Function
This is a global position that sits within Diageo’s Grain to Glass structure and reports into the Global Head of Transformational Partnerships.
The Transformational Partnerships team is focussed on unlocking key systemic challenges across the food system, as we work towards our climate, nature and water goals. This team will be driving forward action-based partnerships; working with peers and partners across the food system, infrastructure development, third sector, funding and policy landscapes; helping to address these challenges and enable efficient scaling of action at greater pace and efficiency.
About the Role
Identifying and developing opportunities to unlock systemic blockers to transformational change, from a circular economy and packaging perspective. Deepening relationships (whilst managing competition law) with stakeholders in upstream supply, infrastructure and material converters, and government / policy makers, to accelerate value chain decarbonisation and water based outcomes. Leveraging these relationships in support of accelerating the above priority areas, with optimised funding solutions.
This role will deliver transformational change, with collaborative thinking and strategy at its core.
Key Accountabilities include:
- Identify opportunities to unlock systemic blockers to transformational change, from a circular economy and packaging perspective.
- Identify, engage and build collaborative partnerships with relevant external partners (including peers, suppliers, technical advisors, NGOs and government agencies), to build/develop these programmes
- Review performance of these programmes, identifying and implement opportunities to optimise.
- Provide regular internal performance updates on programmes with key collaborators, identifying roadblocks and proposals to address these.
- In partnership with Procurement, Logistics, Breakthrough Innovation and Brand Change & Innovation teams, seek business endorsement of the strategic approach and delivery / funding models.
- Once defined and endorsed, ensure strategy is effective within the business with clearly understood and embedded accountabilities for delivery.
- Manage engagement with Grain to Glass, procurement and in-market category teams to optimise engagement, ownership and oversight of key programmes.
- Ensure management of key partnerships is compliant with internal and external competition law and business integrity requirements.
Experience required/Skills/Capabilities/Languages:
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Extensive experience of establishing and managing the implementation of circular economy and packaging strategies as well as delivery plans.
- Expertise in sustainable supply chain issues and familiarity with global sourcing strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate/influence colleagues and in the process hold oneself as well as others accountable for reaching ambitiously set targets while upholding credible and recognized standards of practice.
- Experience in dealing and influencing multi-stakeholder consortiums with environmental and social experts and peers within a matrix leadership structure.
- Strong relationship building at all levels, including with Senior Executives and peers.
- Experience in developing collaborative frameworks with measurable impact for sustainability.
- Conflict resolution: ability to identify root causes of complex issues and successfully navigate their resolution.
- Excellent presentation skills, enthusiasm, and ability to lead workshops internally and externally, engaging people and building capability.
- Proven and recognized achievements in sustainable sourcing and the assurance thereof.
- Be a self-starter with high levels of motivation to work across matrix organisation.
- Passionate about sustainability and creating value through value chain collaboration.
- Outstanding communication and organization skills and ability to represent Diageo in external forums.
