Description:
The Civil Construction Manager will oversee and manage the civil engineering and construction activities for projects within the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracting company. This role involves coordinating all phases of civil construction, including planning, design, execution, and completion of civil works. The Civil Construction Manager ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality standards, safety regulations, and applicable codes. The position requires strong leadership skills, extensive experience in civil construction, and a solid understanding of the EPC contracting environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Planning & Coordination:
- Lead the civil construction team in planning, scheduling, and coordinating all civil works for EPC projects, ensuring alignment with overall project timelines and deliverables.
- Collaborate with the design, procurement, and engineering teams to review plans, specifications, and drawings to ensure that all project requirements are met.
- Develop detailed work plans, identify key milestones, and allocate resources to achieve project goals.
Construction Supervision:
- Supervise all civil construction activities on-site, ensuring that work is executed in accordance with the approved designs, codes, and regulations.
- Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards during all stages of construction.
- Manage the day-to-day activities of construction teams, subcontractors, and labor to maintain high productivity levels and efficient operations.
Budget & Cost Control:
- Monitor project costs and ensure that the civil construction activities are carried out within the allocated budget.
- Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, value engineering exercises, and cost control strategies.
- Track and report on budget variances, proposing corrective actions as needed to stay within financial targets.
Quality Control & Assurance:
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure that all construction works meet the required standards and specifications.
- Conduct regular inspections of civil works and oversee the testing and commissioning of materials and systems.
- Resolve any quality-related issues that arise during the construction phase.
Team Leadership & Management:
- Lead, motivate, and manage a team of civil engineers, foremen, and construction workers, ensuring that all team members are trained, equipped, and aligned with project goals.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials, equipment, and services required for civil works.
- Ensure effective communication between the civil construction team and other project stakeholders.
Safety Management:
- Oversee the implementation of safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with national and international safety standards.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site inspections to promote a safe working environment and prevent accidents or incidents.
- Investigate safety-related issues or incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare and submit regular progress reports, highlighting key project developments, issues, and milestones to senior management.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date construction records, including daily reports, inspection logs, and work permits.
- Ensure that all project documentation is organized and stored according to company and regulatory requirements.
Stakeholder Communication:
- Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution of civil construction activities and address any project concerns or changes.
- Participate in project meetings, providing updates on civil construction progress, challenges, and solutions.
Problem Solving & Risk Management:
- Identify potential risks and issues that could impact the construction schedule, cost, or quality, and take proactive steps to mitigate them.
- Resolve technical challenges or disputes related to civil construction, working closely with the engineering and project teams.
Key Requirements:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Professional certifications or licenses (e.g., Project Management Professional, Chartered Engineer) are advantageous.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in civil construction, with at least 5 years in a management role within an EPC contracting environment.
- Strong experience in managing large-scale civil construction projects, including infrastructure, buildings, roads, and utilities.
- Proven track record of successfully managing civil construction teams, budgets, and schedules.
- Skills & Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of civil construction methods, materials, and technologies.
- Strong project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
- Proficient in construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and quality control standards in construction.
