JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a highly motivated Civil Engineer to join our team in Alberta on a fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) basis with a 14-day rotation. The successful candidate will work alongside the Resident Engineer as a Project Manager, responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing infrastructure projects that support mining operations, including roads, bridges, water systems, waste management facilities, and more. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on critical infrastructure projects while ensuring safety, compliance, and efficient resource management. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in the mining sector while developing leadership and project management skills.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- At least a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- P.Eng designation is preferable (or eligibility for registration with APEGA).
- 0-5 years of experience in civil engineering or heavy construction sectors, preferably in the mining industry.
- Adequate knowledge of engineering analysis tools.
- Experience with structural design, site development, and geotechnical analysis.
- Strong understanding of civil construction techniques and safety standards.
- Solid knowledge of materials science, hydrology, and soil mechanics.
- Strong creativity and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar civil engineering software.
- Ability to carry out designated projects in accordance with contract requirements.
- Proven ability to work as a member of a team.
- Demonstrable deadline/time management and task management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Carries out duties to the best of their ability.
- With the nature of the job, you may be required to perform shift work and work as necessary to meet the needs of the team and targets.
- Willingness to travel to sites.
- Obeys all lawful and reasonable orders given and complies with organizational rules.
- Familiar with company safety regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning, design, and oversight of civil engineering projects in the mining sector.
- Support the development of mining infrastructure from concept to construction.
- Conduct site investigations and feasibility assessments.
- Oversee construction projects from inception to completion, ensuring that they meet budget, schedule, and quality expectations.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop structural, geotechnical, and environmental designs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical engineers, and others) to achieve integrated project outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with civil engineering safety standards and industry regulations.
- Supervise and work under the guidance of a senior engineer.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and risk assessments.
- Provide technical reports and documentation as required.
