Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Civil Engineering Technician to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will assist in the planning, design, and execution of various civil engineering projects. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Civil Engineering Technician or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and other relevant engineering tools.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, techniques, and practices.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in work.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and Drafting:
  • Prepare sketches, charts, tabulations, plans, and designs for civil engineering works such as drainage, water supply, sewerage reticulation systems, roads, airports, dams, bridges, and other structures using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Develop detailed drawings and specifications to support project requirements and ensure accuracy and compliance with design standards.
  • Fieldwork and Laboratory Testing:
  • Perform and direct fieldwork, including site surveys and inspections to gather data and ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
  • Conduct laboratory testing of construction materials, soils, and other relevant samples to determine their properties and suitability for use in projects.
  • Collect and analyze data from field and laboratory tests to inform project decisions.
  • Project Support:
  • Interpret work assignment instructions, apply appropriate procedures, and select equipment for various tasks.
  • Estimate material costs and ensure finished works are within specifications, regulations, and contract provisions.
  • Assist in the preparation of project cost estimates and schedules, ensuring accuracy and feasibility.
  • Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to the project manager, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
  • Inspection and Maintenance:
  • Inspect civil engineering works during and after construction to ensure compliance with design specifications and standards.
  • Organize and supervise maintenance and repair work, ensuring the longevity and safety of completed structures.
  • Conduct field and laboratory tests of construction materials, and collect data for traffic surveys as needed.
  • Support for Engineering Professionals:
  • Conduct tests of construction materials, prepare sketches and tabulations, and assist in estimating costs to support Civil Engineering Professionals and Engineering Technologists.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to projects, ensuring easy access and retrieval of information.
