You’ll gain hands-on experience in various aspects of civil engineering, including a complete view from inception to completion. The Civil Engineering Trainee will play a vital role in the design, analysis, and multi-disciplinary coordination of land development and municipal projects. This includes grading, servicing, stormwater management, and water distribution for subdivisions, site developments and municipal road reconstruction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work within a dynamic team environment to complete projects from preliminary stages of the design through to completion
  • Preparation of Civil Engineering Design and Documents for land development and municipal projects such as subdivisions, site plans, road reconstructions, parking lot replacements, etc.
  • Design of civil infrastructure including site servicing, grading, stormwater management, watermains, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, noise studies, drainage, erosion control and storm water management systems etc.
  • Review designs and drawings to ensure accuracy, adequacy, and conformance to current standards
  • When required, coordinate/review/assist field staff with site investigations, general reviews of construction, and preparation of field review reports
  • Cost estimates and cost comparison of technical solutions
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Civil Division Manager or Leads

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a relevant discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in Civil Engineering, with a focus on consulting/design considered an asset
  • Eligible for Professional Engineer designation with the PEO within 2 years
  • Experience with Provincial and local Municipality design guidelines, the Ontario Building Code, other applicable Canadian Engineering standards, and applicable legislature such as the Planning Act
  • Sound understanding of water and environmental related principles and engineering concepts, including hydraulics and hydrology
  • Relevant experience with stormwater management design and flow modelling software (MIDUSS, EPA SWM, PCSWMM, Visual OTTHYMO, HEC-RAS, etc.) considered an asset
  • Experience with BMP and LID techniques and implementation considered an asset
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and AutoCAD suites. Preference will be given to candidates with Civil3D experience
  • Effective team builder with demonstrated abilities to motivate all levels of staff
  • Enthusiastic individual eager to learn, grow, and contribute to our innovative projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision and in a team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple technical projects and work in a fast-paced environment
