Job Description
The Civil Seismic Engineer will be responsible for the analysis, design, and assessment of structures to ensure they are resilient against seismic events. This role involves performing seismic evaluations for new and existing structures, developing retrofit strategies, and ensuring designs comply with UK and international standards. The successful candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality engineering solutions that meet client and regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field;
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards Chartership with a recognised institution (e.g., ICE, IStructE).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in seismic design and analysis within the civil or structural engineering sector.
  • Proficiency in seismic analysis and design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, OpenSees).
  • Strong knowledge of UK and international seismic codes and standards (e.g., Eurocode 8, British Standards).
  • Experience with performance-based seismic design, nonlinear dynamic analysis, and soil-structure interaction.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative engineering solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities.

• Carries out internal quality control: checks the consistency of the engineering deliverables • Takes part in the management of experience feedback from previous projects

  • Reports to the team manager on activity progress

Perm or initial 12m+ FTC with likelihood of extension plus Segula benefits package. Salary depending on experience

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct seismic analysis and design for various civil engineering projects, including buildings, bridges, and infrastructure, using UK and international standards (e.g., Eurocode 8, British Standards, and other relevant codes).
  • Perform seismic assessment and retrofitting of existing structures to enhance their seismic performance.
  • Develop and validate structural models using advanced analysis software
  • Collaborate with geotechnical engineers to incorporate site-specific seismic data and soil-structure interaction into structural designs.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications for seismic projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff.
  • Coordinate with project managers, clients, architects, and construction teams to ensure designs meet project requirements and are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Stay updated on the latest seismic engineering research, best practices, and emerging technologies to enhance design approaches and methodologies.
  • Participate in technical reviews, quality assurance checks, and peer review processes to maintain high standards of engineering excellence.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including proposal writing and client presentations.
