Claims Liability Lead at VMIA, Ongoing Permanent position

Your role As an experienced end-to-end Claims Liability Lead, you will positively lead a team and play a crucial role managing a group of claims specialists and provide best practice strategic claims management. This role sits within the Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions Division, reporting to the Liability Claims Portfolio Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to build capability for the high performing team, fostering a positive work environment and driving results. The Lead role also plays a vital part in supporting the Portfolio Manager to educate the team and clients, building their knowledge of emerging trends and strategies aimed at reducing the level and frequency of claims to heighten their risk management capability. What you do

  • You lead and manage claims specialists to achieve a high performing team and optimise their claims management effectiveness across a broad and complex portfolio. This portfolio includes institutional abuse and forces adoption claims, general liability, professional indemnity, construction risk and director’s and officer’s claims, investigation and inquiry responses, and discrete indemnity responses to State exposures.
  • You identify and develop team capability, expertise, and skills to meet current and emerging, operational and client service needs, through dedicated training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • You undertake quality assurance activities to ensure claim specialist compliance and consistency with VMIA’s Claims Management Manual, processes, and philosophies.
  • You support the Portfolio Manager in developing and maintaining a consistent client experience across the portfolio, with a lens of effectiveness and providing continuous improvement to processes and approaches.
  • You build and manage effective relationships with key advisers, including VMIA’s legal panel to achieve optimum claims resolution.
  • With the Portfolio Manager, you work with Insights and Finance to support the analysis of claims data and current and future trends. You use this information to educate and build capability in the team and improved claims outcomes.
  • You support the Portfolio Manager in developing and implementing key service delivery programs and initiatives to enable improved outcomes.
  • You assist the Portfolio Manager in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to meet the strategic claims management needs of our clients.

Who you work with

  • You work across the liability claims team and are responsible for managing the claims specialists in the team.
  • You work closely with the Liability Claims Portfolio Manager in managing the portfolio.
  • You work across the Risk, Insurance and Claims Solutions Division and the broader organisation to support the team’s key Insurance Services programs and initiatives.
  • You may provide occasional information and updates directly to the Executive. You may also present on strategic program or initiatives related to client or sector from time to time. This will be with support and direction of the Portfolio Manager.

About you

  • Minimum of 3-5 year’s experience in a leadership role.
  • You have experience in claims management and people management with an insurer or at a law firm.
  • Demonstrated experience to positively lead a team, influence outcomes and re-engineer business processes to ensure optimal performance.
  • You have strong knowledge and experience in insurance claims management along with the capacity to analyse and interpret claims information and data sources. You can demonstrate how you have used this intel to identify trends and strategic opportunities for improvement.
  • You have a demonstrated capability to manage the performance of claims service providers to ensure that agreed service standards and fees are maintained.

Qualifications

  • You hold a tertiary qualification.
  • You may also hold a professional membership with a risk management, Insurance, or other relevant organisation.
