Responsibilities:

THE ROLE:

Canopius specialises in property binding authority business and the binding authorities provide coverage for personal property, commercial property, commercial automobile property damage and package general liability. We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join the property binders claims team as a Claims Manager. We are looking to recruit a motivated and skilled individual who is dedicated to North American and Rest of the World delegated business. This is a great opportunity to manage a team of passionate claims adjusters at a top 5 Lloyd’s of London syndicate with global operations.
The Claims Manager will need to proactively manage the property binders claims team in all aspects: technical oversight of delegated claims authority holders (“DCAs”), day to day workload and career progression. The team comprises of three Senior Adjusters, four Adjusters and a claims apprentice. The Claims Manager has responsibility for managing the property binders claims portfolio whilst additionally handling their own claims, which have complex characteristics such as extra contractual bad faith, consumer duty issues or complex consumer complaints.
A key component of this role is Catastrophe claims management and the ability to manage claims surges post catastrophe events. As the claims manager, you will be asked to support the business by providing catastrophe ultimate figures, claims catastrophe plan compliance and recommending catastrophe claims best practices.
Outside of the Claims function, the Claims Manager will be expected to collaborate closely with key stakeholders; our delegated underwriting team, delegated authority management team, complaints actuarial team, risk & compliance, etc. There will be opportunities to assist with developing the business, including fostering relationships with our brokers, coverholders, external vendors, and insureds.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive high performance through setting and reviewing your team’s goals and objectives; motivating your team members through effective one to ones and team meetings; proactively monitoring your team’s performance and giving constructive feedback on performance and ensuring your team has the requisite skills, knowledge and experience and to provide support with ongoing training and development
  • Allocate work, ensuring that all claims notifications are reviewed by suitably experienced, skilled and responsive claims adjusters. At all times, you will ensure that financial provisions are made in accordance with the Canopius Reserving Philosophy. This responsibility extends to the management and oversight of all delegated claims arrangements.
  • Ensure effective technical oversight of delegated claims authority holders (“DCAs”), service providers or outsource partners, who provide services in respect of your team, flagging any issues of concern to the Head of Property and Casualty Claims and proposing a plan to remediate these concerns.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the Property Binders underwriting and claims portfolio and ensure a close collaborative working partnership with underwriters to help them to develop business in accordance with their business plan.
  • Review of the actual versus expected results and ensure that there is meaningful claims input into monthly tracking meetings and quarterly reserving meetings, and to flag areas of the claims portfolio that are underperforming to underwriters, actuaries and management.
  • Develop and maintain relationships, and drive and oversee your team’s relationships, with key external customers (key brokers, external vendors, and where relevant, coverholders and insureds).
