This Classification & Compensation Manager leads a team that performs advanced professional, technical and analytical classification and compensation activities to help maintain and improve the City’s efforts to attract, develop, support and retain a talented workforce so they can provide exceptional services to our community. Responsibilities will include program development and policy administration and implementation, advising department management, supervisors, and other human resources staff on a variety of human resources policies and functions, coordinating and overseeing and participating as needed in staff duties such as the review of internal requests for changes to positions and/or to employees’ compensation rates, conducting human resources-related research such job analyses and position audits, reviewing, revising, or compiling classification specifications, conducting and responding to salary surveys, market pricing jobs, and other external requests for information, and maintaining and updating information on internal and external websites. This position is also responsible for the implementation of annual citywide compensation changes impacting every one of the City’s nearly 14,000 employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five years of professional human resources management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, public or business administration, or a related field.
  • Other combinations of education and experience that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient experience in classification and compensation activities.
  • Experience with HR and office technology including work experience using PeopleSoft or a similar HRIS, Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
