We are pleased to be able to offer an exciting opportunity to join the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) Programme Team at Northampton General Hospital. In partnership with our chosen supplier, we have embarked on our digital excellence journey to implement a nationally-leading EPR system that will transform the quality of care for our patients and staff by having instantly accessible information using the latest mobile technology, reducing paper usage and utilising clinical decision support tools.
The Classifications & Terminology EPR Implementation Specialist will act as a subject matter expert on SNOMED-CT terminology and ICD-10/11 & OPCS-4 classifications, providing expert advice and support to all relevant teams and stakeholders throughout the implementation of the new EPR solution at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust (NGH). The post holder will ensure the optimal design, build, implementation, testing and delivery of EPR modules with a classifications and terminology function, incl. clinical noting, discharge notifications and clinical coding modules.
They will develop and maintain mappings and reference sets between patient data and clinical classifications & terminology systems.
They will lead on the engagement of relevant stakeholders to ensure these functions operate optimally and ultimately deliver an improved quality of encoded data. They will communicate highly complex information effectively to these stakeholders and be able to provide expert knowledge and reassurance as required.
They will ensure alignment of these functions to all necessary national and local standards and they will ensure that the functions deliver a clean and structured output of data, accurately representing all patient activity.
The role carries a high level of responsibility as the successful implementation of these functions is crucial to the financial health of the Trust.
Travel to the hospital site will be required.

Main Duties
Act as a lead subject matter expert on SNOMED-CT terminology and ICD-10/11 & OPCS-4 classifications, providing expert advice and support to all relevant teams and stakeholders throughout the implementation of the new EPR solution.
Ensure the efficient and optimal design, build, implementation, testing and delivery of any classifications & terminology function associated with the EPR including clinical noting, discharge notifications, clinical coding modules and any other modules which incorporate a classifications & terminology function.
Develop and maintain mappings and references sets between healthcare related data and clinical classifications & terminology systems.
Lead on the engagement of relevant teams and stakeholders to ensure classifications & terminology functions operate to their optimum potential and ultimately deliver an improved quality and quantity of coded data across the provider includes outpatients, inpatients and day case activity.
Communicate information effectively to motivate and ensure stakeholders understanding of these functions and be able to provide expert knowledge and reassurance.
Ensure alignment of classifications & terminology functions to all national and local mandatory classifications & terminology standards and rules ensuring that the functions deliver a clean and structured output of data accurately representing all of the healthcare activity across NGH.
Perform continual review of the integration and implementation of classifications & terminology functions across the EPR delivery, using your expert knowledge to develop improvement plans and lead on the associated delivery to ensure these functions are reliable and resilient and facilitate the output of timely and accurate encoded data across the Trust.
Ensure effective service delivery monitoring is in place for requisite EPR modules, with up to date dashboards for service reporting purposes.
Work closely with colleagues including the Head of Clinical Coding, Nervecentre team and colleagues across the entire EPR programme team to enable an innovative and effective implementation of all aspects of the classifications & terminology systems.
Work closely with colleagues within the training team to ensure an effective planning and delivery of requisite training, related to the classifications & terminology functions, to all associated stakeholders.
Work closely with the Data Security and Protection team to ensure the alignment and compliance of the classifications & terminology functions to all mandatory Information Governance and Data Security & Protection standards.
Collaborate with relevant colleagues as necessary to ensure the effective integration of the classifications & terminology systems with other systems across the Trust and the wider ICB and Group as necessary with the aim of maximising the efficiency of the systems and their associated coded output to ensure the best possible quality of coded data and the appropriate level of resource and reimbursement for healthcare provider activity.
Develop and validate reference sets, data mapping and transformation of healthcare data into the integration service and/or data warehouse.
Work with stakeholders to analyse and transform encoded healthcare data.
Champion and lead by example the Group values and behaviours throughout your role.
Promote and utilise Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practices throughout your role.
In conjunction with relevant stakeholders identify, mitigate and manage any clinical risks associated with the integration and use of classifications & terminology functions in relation to electronic patient records.
Proactively and positively contribute to the overall EPR implementation programme by engaging in appropriate planning, development and delivery working groups.
Contribute to the improving financial performance of NGH by facilitating a timely delivery of high quality encoded activity.
Use your experience and initiative to plan work to ensure effective delivery, resolving conflicting timescales and priorities independently and exercising sound judgement and discretion to resolve issues wherever appropriate.
Ensure the ongoing delivery of updates to relevant functions to maintain the alignment to all national classifications & terminology systems standards and rules.
Form and maintain constructive and positive relationships with the EPR supplier and stakeholders across the Trust to optimise the delivery of the classifications & terminology functions.
Advise and provide support with change management requirements associated with the introduction and develop of the EPR.
Challenge existing practices, ensuring that progressive solutions, which consider models of best practice, are incorporated into service plans.
