Job Description
The Clery Compliance Officer and Inspector, under direction, manages and coordinates inspections as part of the department’s on-going accreditation process, to include coordination of Federal Clery Act compliance efforts, and conducts background investigations and other administrative investigations as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a Campus Security Authority in compliance with the Federal Clery Act.
- Serves as the Department’s authority and primary contact for the Federal Clery Act compliance program efforts.
- Maintains fluency in Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) or equivalent standards and processes
- Maintains files containing proofs of compliance
- Drafts reports and written directives that achieve accreditation objectives
- Manages the accreditation process to complete tasks and meet deadlines
- Monitors departmental policies to ensure that they meet accreditation requirements.
- Informs personnel of changes in regulations and policies, implications of new or amended laws, and new techniques of police work
- Provides accreditation training for agency personnel
- Coordinates on-site assessments and inspections
- Conducts background investigations
- Conducts other administrative investigations as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- Two years of law enforcement experience to include at least one year experience and direct involvement in a successful CALEA (or equivalent) accreditation, including on-site assessment process.
Preferred Experience and Certifications:
- Prior experience working in higher education and/or law enforcement agencies in either sworn or non-sworn capacity
- Completion of Federal Clery Act Compliance training from a national training provider
- Completion of accreditation training related to higher education institutions and/or law enforcement agencies
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software programs.
- Knowledge of local community, area support and resource systems and local law enforcement agencies.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with reduced levels of managerial oversight and perform supervisory or team coordination of tasks as necessary
- Confidentiality is a must due to the sensitive nature of information handled.
