ABOUT THE TEAM
In this role, as a member of the Resilient and Climate Neutral Regions (RCNR) Cluster, you will contribute to the implementation of a strategy aiming to support regions become resilient and climate neutral by applying place-based systems transformation and providing a platform for collaboration.
Nested within RCNR cluster, the Climate Resilient Regions Team focuses on supporting regions and communities that wish to transition to climate resilience through a transformational adaptation approach. Moving beyond reactive and incremental adaptation of existing systems, our approach seeks to bring about systems change where this needed to close the adaptation gap and deliver long-term prosperity in the face of climate change. Our goal is to empower local stakeholders to proactively embrace transformational change towards climate resilience, foster shared learning and encourage partnerships, and develop customized strategies. This commitment unfolds through a strategic roadmap designed to further strengthen our European-level role, develop interventions in engaged regions, deepen efforts in selected regions.
Much of this work takes place in the context of the EU’s Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change aiming to have 150 climate resilient regions within Europe by 2030. The Climate Resilient Regions Team is involved in a diverse portfolio of projects related to the Mission Adaptation, including Pathways2Resilience, VALORADA, NBRACER, ARCADIA and DESIRMED and others to follow. From within this engagement and beyond we introduce a systems innovation approach exemplified by the Regional Resilience Journeys (RRJ). This not only expands our involvement in ongoing projects but also increases coordination among various regions, contributing to a more cohesive and effective response to climate challenges.
As one of our thematic focus areas, we pioneer Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) as a strategic component within our portfolio for transformational change, actively seeking opportunities to incorporate NBS principles, initiating projects, and developing methodologies to validate their effectiveness. Through collaboration with stakeholders and the use of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) methods, we aim to contribute to a holistic approach to resilience, harmonizing policy, mission approach, and sustainable environmental practices. This comprehensive strategy underscores our dedication to fostering resilience and climate neutrality at both regional and global scales.
