We are currently searching for a Climate Resilience Strategic Advisor/Engineer, in our Edmonton office.

The role entails:
- Effective Relationships: Build trust with clients, both internal and external, to listen to their concerns but also to help guide and influence them to take a broader and longer-term perspective in their work.

- Leadership: The role will require leadership, from start to finish, in proposal development, project management, and the application and reporting of a wide range of projects and clients.
- Evidence-Based Insights: This role focuses on the application or action side of climate resilience, which is informed by climate data. A strong understanding of risk assessment processes and being able to identify impacts from various climate parameters is a regular part of the job.
The role will support Associated’s work across the country, will be integral to the development of a growing climate resilience practice and will actively develop the business.
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Project management, coordination, and adapting as needs require.
- Guiding organizations, at the enterprise or project scales, to understand the importance of climate change, how it can be considered and the process for developing actions.
- Understanding climate data and use it to support organizations’ responses to a changing climate.
- Planning and facilitating stakeholder engagement, through structured interviews, facilitated workshops, questionnaires and meetings.
- Developing climate hazard, vulnerability and risk assessments using the most appropriate framework and, if required, develop adapted frameworks to meet project needs.
- Developing action plans considering multiple types of actions such as policy, monitoring and reporting, communication, built infrastructure and natural infrastructure.
- Providing senior review (QA/QC) and oversight to junior staff in the preparation of climate risk and action planning related projects and/or deliverables.
- Preparing compelling reports and presentations to be provided to clients for projects and in support of business development.
- Supporting building a growing climate resilience practice including business development (through client meetings, association representation, content development, standards development, etc.)
Job Requirements:
What you will bring:
- 5+ year of experience in infrastructure design, project management and risk management. Experience in climate risk management and/or adaptation planning is an asset.
- Post-secondary degree in a relevant field (engineering, science, etc.), preferably with direct experience in a broad range of infrastructure engineering disciplines. Graduate degree in a relevant field is an asset.
- Understanding of the implications of climate risk on infrastructure and communities.
- Experience working on multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience in managing, communicating and supporting decision-making in the face of significant uncertainty.
- Ability to design, develop and implement facilitated client-facing sessions to support their journey through a better consideration of climate risk.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills with an ability to effectively engage audiences, as well as an ability to clearly summarize findings and offer meaningful insight.
- Effective project management and organizational skills, including ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience in developing emergency response plans, responding to climate-related emergencies and/or recovering from climate-related emergencies is an asset.
