Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for both the collection and analysis of specific data elements from medical record documentation for use in performance improvement, peer review, risk management, infection control, and other improvement efforts within the facility. This position will report to the Quality Manager and will work with process improvement teams, quality management, case management, risk management, infection control, and other departments to identify problem areas and help work to facilitate needed changes.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs clinical data abstraction based on defined patient populations and analyzes data using appropriate analytical or statistical techniques.
  • Communicates data to appropriate entities/committees/departments.
  • Performs clinical data abstraction based upon project-specific work.
  • Ensures the quality, integrity, and appropriateness of data collection techniques and of data used for analyses.
  • Participates collaboratively and effectively with administrative, nursing, medical, ancillary, and support personnel in process improvement teams at all levels of the organization.
  • Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Demonstrates high standards for accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Thrives working independently and takes ownership of projects.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills to simultaneously manage multiple projects.
  • Possesses ability to adapt to changes in timelines, requirements, and project assignments with grace and efficiency.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and security of all clinical data and patient information.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a Bachelor’s degree in a directly-related field from an accredited college or university.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

Three (3) years professional level patient care or healthcare administrative experience which included significant experience in compiling, manipulating, and reporting on various clinical quality, financial, and healthcare related metrics. Preference may be given to candidates who hold or have previously held RN (or equivalent) licensure.
