Description:

Key competencies

  • Ability to participate in an established roster covering a range of shifts within the hours of 0600-1630 weekdays and 0600-1100 on weekends and public holidays.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours or extra shifts where necessary to support patient care.
  • Reliable & punctual
  • Ability to successfully perform phlebotomy on neonates, paediatric, adult, and geriatric patients in a busy public hospital environment.
  • Prioritise inpatient and outpatient workloads to meet Turn Around Times, averaging 7 or more collections per hour on each shift.
  • Use of an integrated electronic Medical Record system and a Laboratory Information System or the ability to quickly learn those systems.
  • Communicate clearly, calmly, and respectfully with supervisors, colleagues, patients, and clients.
  • An established history of positive teamwork, respectful behaviour, and above-average attendance
  • Knowledge or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations, pathology terminology and abbreviations, test names and specimen types.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • A Certificate III in Pathology Collection or equivalent or higher would be highly regarded.
  • Previous experience, especially in paediatric phlebotomy, would be highly regarded.
  • The candidate will be required to stand or walk for most of the shift, up to 8 hours or more at times, while moving a trolley carrying required IT equipment and blood collection equipment around the wards
