Description:

Key Responisibilities Include

  • Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with HSQ fundamental principles of ICARE, as outlined above.
  • Participate in a roster which includes shifts from 06:00 to 23:00, 7 days, including evenings, weekends, public holidays and overtime as required.
  • Processing blood and non-blood specimens from clients of Pathology Queensland as per protocols.
  • Ability to work in a digital hospital environment using computer-based processing systems.
  • Ensure correct patient identification, labelling and collecting techniques are followed according to documented policies and procedures.
  • Perform routine operational duties including patient reception, specimen reception, data entry, inventory control, maintaining clean work areas and other duties as requested.
  • Participate in relevant on-going education and assist in staff training.
  • Comply with National Association of Testing Authorities and International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO) accreditation/certification requirements including performing quality control procedures, assisting with preparation of procedure manuals and completion of relevant statistics.
  • Comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations, and standards which impact upon the position including Queensland Health Code of Conduct, contemporary human resource management requirements and practices, such as workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policy

Key competencies

  • Demonstrated operational knowledge of Clinical Pathology and Specimen Reception procedures, and medical and scientific terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner with and without supervision within a team environment. Ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.
  • Ability to actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.
