Description:

Do you have an eye for detail and do you enjoy problem solving? If so, a career in Clinical Coding could be just for you.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills. Wye Valley Trust is currently looking for an applicant that is either interested in exploring the opportunities of joining us as a Clinical Coder (band 3), or as one that has already gained experience and accreditation in this field (covering band 4/5). We recognize the importance of a skilled clinical coding workforce and are committed to the ongoing training and development of our coding professionals.
You will be fully supported through an initial extensive training program to enable you to gain a good knowledge of medical terminology and coding principles in order to become proficient in this interesting field. After two years you will be required to undertake the National Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification Examination, and upon the successful attainment of this qualification you will be given the opportunity to progress into a senior post. Hybrid working for qualified or experienced coders can be discussed at interview or by calling the Clinical Coding Manager.
If you would like further information on this post and its requirements, please contact:
Kayleigh Jenkins. Clinical Coding Team Leader: kayleigh.jenkins@wvt. nhs.uk
Diane Magness, Clinical Coding Manager: diane.magness@wvt .nhs.uk
The post holder will be responsible to abstract, analyse and translate patient diagnoses using the International Classification of Diseases Volume 10 (ICD10) and operative procedures according to the Office of Population Census 4 (OPCS4). To use the National Rules and Conventions to assign codes to all inpatient episodes, in order to meet the Trusts monthly deadlines and support the Trusts business requirements. To locate and collate missing source material for coding purposes.
The post holder will, through nationally recognised training, acquire the knowledge and expertise to ensure that the clinical information is accurately abstracted from the Trust source document, verifying the data where necessary before translating into diagnostic and procedural codes in a timely and accurate manner using the current classifications. The post holder will then input the codes on to the system, working under the supervision of the Clinical Coding Team Leader.
The post holder will be part of the Trust Clinical Coding team and will come into contact with a variety of hospital staff ranging from medical records and ward staff, to managers and clinicians, liaising with coders on the appropriate ICD10 and OPCS4 clinical codes to represent patient care received across the Trust.
