Description:
This post involves close working with clinicians in Primary Care Networks to assess, formulate and offer brief psychological interventions for clients who identify as being autistic by Haringey Autism Hub and Haringey ARRS Primary Care Mental Health Team.
This key interface role between the Autism Hub, Primary Care and Secondary Mental Health Services will provide assessment and brief interventions for autistic clients presenting with a wide range of mental health needs who have traditionally fallen through the gap between primary and secondary care mental health services.
You will be able to deliver brief, evidence-based psychological interventions under the supervision of a clinical psychologist. The role involves ongoing weekly supervision to develop a broad range of skills to work with diverse autistic presentations. This role will require the development and maintenance of an effective interface with Clinicians in secondary care Mental Health Services, including the team Locality Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychological Therapy Pathway leads in cases where you are providing a psychological intervention for a client already engaging with Core Community Mental Health Teams.
A key part of the role is to build professional relationships and improve communications with Primary Care colleagues, Voluntary Care Sector colleagues and Community Mental Health Services to help autistic patients to engage with appropriate services to meet their respective needs.
- Undertake high quality assessments, formulations and treatment of people who are identified as autistic (self or diagnosed)
- Ensuring there are no ‘cliff edges’ or ‘gaps in services’ in provision of mental health care and support, which requires an approach to working with autistic clients based on their current mental health needs rather than diagnosis.
- To facilitate timely referrals into Secondary Mental Health services, IAPT, Haringey Wellbeing Network, Haringey Safe Haven and other local community services for ongoing therapy (where appropriate)
- Provide care and treatment to clients and their carers with a service that is culturally sensitive and gives due consideration to any special needs and ensure these are of the highest standard in terms of fair access, equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice.
- To ensure that statutory and legal requirements are incorporated safely within each service users care plan.
- To undertake regular and thorough risk assessments for each service user you support.
- To be highly skilled at managing and containing challenging behaviours of service user and/or their family members at times of distress and crisis.
- To be able to work autonomously within the Autism Hub and identify and report risk in a timely manner using systems in place.
The partnership between Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust (BEH) and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (C&I) is going from strength to strength since it was originally established in 2021 forming the North London Mental Health Partnership.
In order to meet the needs of the new Partnership services you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Enfield and Harringay Trust and Camden and Islington Trust. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.
This vacancy has been advertised in accordance with the new NHS pay rate which will take effect from autumn 2024. Please note if your employment starts before the 24/25 pay scales are implemented you will be paid under the 23/24 pay scales and any backpay will be adjusted accordingly.
