ABOUT US
The Curtin Medical School comprises the Disciplines of Medicine, Medical Radiation Science, Pharmacy, Laboratory Medicine and Biomedical Science. It is one of four schools within the Faculty of Health Sciences, alongside two affiliated research institutes (the Curtin Medical Research Institute and the Curtin enAble Institute). The flagship Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program commenced in 2017, and is delivered predominantly in state-of-the-art clinical teaching and simulation facilities on the University’s Bentley campus.
The MBBS is the only undergraduate medical degree in Western Australia, and now enrols up to 120 new students each year, with preferential selection of students with a rural, Indigenous Australian or other equity background. Its unique curriculum and dynamic clinical placement program is driven by a future-focussed approach to medicine. In addition, the School has over 10 affiliated metropolitan hospital placement sites, along with health campuses in Midland (Perth) and Kalgoorlie (Goldfields, WA), is a member of the Rural Clinical School WA, and has close links with metropolitan and rural primary care and other community-based healthcare providers.

- Ensure clinical teaching supervisors have sufficient knowledge of the planned curriculum, learning objectives, and workplace-based assessment for each of the clinical placement disciplines.
- Ensure students are aware of additional learning opportunities on-site and provide teaching where required.
- Ensure consistency of learning experiences for students on site.
- Provide pastoral care and support performance management of students when required.
- Interact with the Clinical Deans at the other hospital training sites to keep the curriculum standardized and support each other when issues arise at your site or theirs.
- Work closely together with the several Discipline Leads for the specialties the students are placed in.
- Participate, where possible in student assessment on Campus in exam time (OSCE examiner), or support writing questions in the realm of your specialty.
