Description:

Red Cell Haematology is part of UCL /UCLH Haematology Department and undertakes education, service improvement and provides clinical care for patients with haemoglobinopathies and rare inherited anaemias.
This is a full-time 1 year clinical, education and service improvement post based at UCH, with the aim to improve the care of red cell patients across the Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre Network.
The postholder will be working clinically with a variety of patient groups and healthcare providers. The expectation would be to understand how management and education structures work within the NHS to facilitate improvements in care.
The postholder will take an active part in the general work of the Red Cell Network, which will include staff training, attendance at management meetings both locally and at an Integrated Clinical System and national (NHSE) level across the geographical patch.
The job plan consists of 10 Programmed Activities per week on average, with ~5 PAs Direct Clinical Care and 5 PAs Education and Management for the Red Cell Network.
The fellow will also play a full role in the UCLH Haematology on call rota, with associated out of hour pay supplement.
This role is based on the UCLH site, with a potential for 1 day a week of home-working. The new post-holder will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including personal and professional objectives with the Clinical Lead once appointed to the post.

Direct Clinical Care Activities (DPAs): 5 PA

  • Registrar On call rota
  • MDT attendance 1PA
  • Clinics x 2 per week 2.5PA including administration time

Educational and Management activities: 5PA

  • Network meetings
  • Scoping visits regarding service improvement

Teaching
The appointee must hold at least MRCP Part II or equivalent, MRCPath Part I and full registration with the General Medical Council. Applicants are urged to have at least minimal cover with a medical defence organisation.
