    Salary Range: $41.33 - $58.09

Reporting to the Manager of Professional Practice, the Clinical Educator/Facilitator (CEF) – Mental Health serves as a role model and leader to support care that optimizes patient outcomes and experiences while enhancing the safety, efficiency, effectiveness and accessibility of patient care by:

  • Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating education for nursing and the inter-professional team
  • Enhancing current knowledge and skills of theory and practice in their area of specialty through continuous learning
  • Serving as a clinical practice/education resource using sound clinical judgement (informed by clinical best practices)
  • Being change agents and roles models that advocate for and create learning/education environments (and opportunities) that enhance clinical and professional practice and life-long learning
  • Working with other clinical leaders to support the development of staff, including participation in corporate education and other initiatives
  • Collaborating with inter-professional teams and external partners to influence and advance best practices in education and evidence-based practice

EDUCATION AND NURSING PRACTICE:

  • Education and staff development
  • Assess learning needs and styles of inter-professional team
  • Design and deliver education that is tailored to specific needs of individual/unit/program
  • Develop curricula using contemporary educational theories, principles, and models
  • Incorporates best evidence and relevant research findings into content and delivery methods
  • Incorporates best practices in education (e.g., principles of adult learning, domains of learning)
  • Incorporates inter-professional core competencies where applicable
  • Monitors and evaluates education and mastery of student learning; revises education and learning activities to meet emerging needs
  • Provides timely feedback to staff on their learning and application to their practice competence
  • Demonstrates professionalism including legal, ethical and professional values as a basis for developing nursing standards, guidelines, policies, procedures and decision making

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Diploma in Nursing or Baccalaureate degree in Nursing
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related health field, or willing to work towards
  • Completion of a Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program is required
  • Certificate in Nursing Education for the Practice Setting preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Mental Health
  • Formal preparation as an educator/clinical instructor or evidence of working towards is required
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification in relevant specialty is preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Cambridge Memorial Hospital
  • Must have an excellent attendance record

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses in Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse in good standing required
  • Diploma or Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Mental Health
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mental illness and treatment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of substance use and treatment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction oriented care.
  • Experience caring for mental health patients from young adults to seniors.
  • Master’s degree in Nursing is required
  • Recent formal education and experience in adult education within the past 2 years required
  • BCLS required.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning related to surgical/rehabilitation nursing is required
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required
  • Demonstrated advanced critical thinking, process improvement/redesign, and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Strong commitment to recovery principles and patient centered care.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage teams
  • Professional practice experience in program planning, curriculum design, learning technologies, and facilitation skills within the past 2 years required
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office and Meditech required
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary role of the Clinical Educator/Facilitator –Mental Health is to facilitate a learning environment where evidence-based knowledge is translated via education to optimize the patient’s outcomes and experiences. This includes developing educational plans and activities aimed at improving clinical knowledge, skills and competencies and in collaboration with others, and supporting the ongoing professional development of unit/program staff.
