Description:

NUH, formed by the merger of Queens Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital in 2006, is a major NHS Trust providing acute and specialist healthcare services to the region. Its Clinical Engineering Department, part of the wider Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering service, is one of the largest in the country, offering a diverse range of medical device related services both to the Trust and external customers. It has collaborative links within the medical device industry, with academia and with other healthcare providers. The department is actively involved in clinical research, medical device development, technology transfer and specialist consultancy – as well as providing the comprehensive medical technology management, training and safety management services fundamental to the delivery of healthcare by the Trust.
The Clinical Engineering service seeks to appoint a Clinical Engineer within its Medical Devices Advisory Unit (MDAU) multi-specialist team of engineers, to be a source of expert consultancy for the department & the wider Trust in the fields of medical device clinical applications, technologies, research, management, safety, and related regulatory matters. The post-holder will also support the engineering activities of the department’s Medical Engineering & Instrumentation Unit (MEIU) which provides manufacturing and metrology services, its principal function being the development and low-volume production of novel medical devices to address unmet clinical needs – these products conforming to the regulatory requirements both for in-house use and for supply to other external organisations.
With over 19,000 staff, we are one of the biggest employers in the city with a central role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our local population. We play a leading role in research, education and innovation.
Come and join our wonderful team at NUH. We are big believers in diversity and welcome new ideas to help develop our team in order to deliver world class healthcare to the vast patient populations we serve. With endless personal development opportunities available, at NUH we will endeavour to turn your job into a career!
We particularly welcome applications from people who identify as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic, or Disabled, as we are striving to be better represented at NUH.
Candidates should have relevant qualifications to postgraduate level or equivalent, coupled with relevant practical working experience and a sound knowledge of engineering and scientific principles. Medical engineering experience gained in a healthcare environment is desirable, though experience gained in other industrial medical technology settings may be transferable. Key skills should include medical devices applications & management in healthcare, product design & development, engineering production, metrology, service & project management, quality management, risk management and regulatory compliance in relation to medical devices. HCPC state registration is a role requirement, either at appointment or achievable within an acceptable timeframe thereafter. The post-holder will also be expected to achieve CEng professional registration within an agreed timeframe
