Description:
NATURE OF THE WORK:
The Health & Wellness Lab is currently seeking a Fixed-Term part-time Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) to provide exercise program support. This position is for 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Nicole Culos-Reed. This is a dynamic role where the incumbent is expected to work on exercise oncology projects, reporting directly to senior clinical exercise physiologists and research coordinators in the lab. The incumbent will manage programs and perform exercise testing for our exercise oncology participants, based on research and/or clinical protocols set by the Health and Wellness Lab Director. Management of participants within our programs will involve client/participant intake, scheduling, testing, and data input. The incumbent will use their expertise to effectively manage complex participant issues and minimize the potential for errors within the delivery of our exercise oncology programs. It is important that the incumbent has the initiative for professional development, ensuring their knowledge is current within the field. This role requires frequent interaction with clients, as well as with other staff, students and interdepartmental teams; therefore, strong communication skills are required.
Work hours may vary when required to reach changing deadlines, workloads and priorities in a dynamic clinical trial environment including some weekend/evening hours.
This is a recurring part-time position working for 15-25 hours per week. Workdays and number of hours may vary greatly depending on research requirements.
Recurring part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERTISE
- Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology-Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP) designation
- MKin degree in Kinesiology; or similar health science degree
- Current CPR and First Aid Training
- Significant experience conducting research-based fitness testing. Additional experience with testing involving individuals with cancer is required
- High level of effective organizational, time and personal initiative skills, teamwork, accuracy and strong attention to detail
- Strong Microsoft Office skills
- Access data entry and report layout/design
- Training involving exercise with individuals living with and beyond cancer is required
- Knowledge of REDCap and use of Microsoft/google suites
- Ability to work and travel across sites for delivery of programs
- Flexible work hours
Responsibilities:
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Clinical Exercise Physiologist will manage program participants in our exercise oncology programs, including conducting fitness testing, based on our functional fitness protocols. Management of a project will involve client/participant intake, scheduling, testing, data input and triaging participants to the right class.
ACCOUNTABILITIES, TASKS, AND DUTIES
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain resources within the community and as part of the programming
- Customer Service
- Appropriately screen and schedule candidates for inclusion in the program and schedule assessment and follow-up appointments
- Conduct and use functional fitness exercise testing, according to the research protocols
- Instruct individual/group exercise sessions
- Provide participant feedback within programs
- Follow-up with participants to ensure they are keeping to their programs and provide modifications to their program, if necessary
All work will be supervised by more experienced clinical exercise physiologists in the lab.
