Description:

Clinical: Attend the ward daily and review all patients (with the RM consultant when available and also with support from acute clinical teams), aiming to provide continuity and to support therapy staff Review patients background medical information with regard to chronic condition management during rehabilitation and prevent secondary complications Attend and provide medical input to the MTRU MDT meetings Liaise and collaborate with parent team junior doctors to update on changes to patient status including ordering (and taking if necessary) of bloods, XRs, other tests, prescriptions and discharge arrangements as appropriate Follow/chase up results and action issues generated with senior support and guidance Attend ward rounds/ad hoc patient reviews with parent teams, including daily trauma (A and E) round for MTRU patients Clerk in and be familiar with presentation, progress and plans for all new admissions to MTRU Be first point of contact for emergencies on the unit and queries from nursing and therapy staff Working with the major trauma coordinators, major trauma rehabilitation leads and Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine to contribute to the rehabilitation assessment and rehabilitation prescription processes for major trauma patients Liaise with and support patients families and carers Accountable for own professional actions, supervised by the Consultant in Rehabilitation Have basic knowledge and interest in rehabilitation and medical contributions to the rehabilitation process Administrative: To maintain accurate comprehensive and up to date records for patients and staff in line with Trust and legal requirements To communicate assessment and treatment results to the multi-disciplinary team in the form of reports and letters as required In line with departmental guidelines and procedures to provide daily statistics for use by the rehabilitation department to monitor and evaluate service activity levels To maintain up-to-date records of attendance at Statutory Training Research: To take a role in the continual evaluation of practice in the specialty area, through evidence based audit projects, carried out by self or other members of the team, ensuring a programme of systematic review of new and current clinical practice is in place and that the results are presented to other members of the team The MTRS is active in research focused on recovery and rehabilitation after trauma and the opportunity exists to work with the Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine, as well as the wider Musculo-skeletal surgical and rehabilitation teams The team also have an active audit programme (against national and local audit standards) to which the post-holder would be encouraged to contribut
