POSITION SUMMARY

The IT Department in Beaumont Hospital is seeking a clinical/ health informatics specialist interested in healthcare technology to work alongside nurses and other health care providers to bridge the gap between clinical and IT. This role will also support and foster communication between IT, vendors, and clinical staff regarding clinical IT applications. The post holder will also have a key role to play in the rollout of the replacement Hospital Systems for Project Coral.
Responsibilities:

REQUIREMENTS

  • Five years post registration experience, two of which desirably should be in the environment of Health Informatics.
  • Knowledge of Healthcare Information Systems in use in Beaumont Hospital, particularly Nurse Information system (NIS), Nurse Rostering, Theatre System, Diver, Open Reports, Nurse Bank System.
  • Post graduate qualification desirable.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

Project Accountabilities
1. Liaise with clinical disciplines in the hospital concerned with the concepts and structures used to manage data, information and knowledge.
2. Assess the real and potential problems related to the communication, accessibility, availability and use of information for clinical, nursing and administration decision making.
3. Provide clinical and nursing perspectives and expertise to projects groups/teams in relation to IT Systems – particularly in the rollout of Project Coral.
4. Engages in projects, staff training and implementation of clinical systems and acts in an advisory and co-ordination capacity from a clinical/IT liaison perspective.
5. Participates in the selection and analysis of clinical solutions.
6. Co ordinates/participate in the analysis of clinical information systems requirements and vendor analysis/selection in collaboration with key clinical stakeholders.

CLINICAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Develop and evaluate application, tools, processes and structures that assist clinical staff with the management of data in taking care of patients and supporting them in their clinical practice.
  2. Adapt or customise informatics technology to the requirements of clinical staff.
  3. Collaborate with other health care and informatics professionals in the development of informatics products and standards for healthcare informatics in Beaumont Hospital.
  4. Communicate with clinical and nursing management, in the area of system planning, implementation of clinical systems.
  5. Liaise and support clinical managers in the development of ICT for their specific areas.
  6. Assist clinical leaders in the Hospital to develop strategies, policies, and procedures for introducing, evaluating, and modifying IT applications to clinical practice.
  7. Undertake the analysis, design and evaluation of information systems to support the clinical process, decision making, outcomes identification and planning.
  8. Encourage clinical managers involvement in all projects associated with the development of the information systems which may affect them.

EDUCATION/TRAINING

  1. Plan, organise and develop training programs for hospital staff – in the use of the clinical information systems.
  2. Assist in mandatory Induction Training of nurses and other clinical staff

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Good problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in a self directed manner
  • Two years experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in the support of a diverse population of end users.
  • Experience of working with health data systems
  • Proven experience of supporting the delivery of IT services in a demanding environment.

1. STATUTORY REGISTRATION, PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, ETC

(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
(i) Are registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives
maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord
Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) or entitled to be so registered.
(ii) Have at least 5 years post registration experience (or an aggregrate of 5 years
fulltime post registration experience) of which 2 years must be in the speciality
or related area.
(iii) Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge
the functions of the role.
(iv) Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.
(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of
suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the
functions of the role.
