CLINICAL INFORMATICS NURSING PROCESS SPECIALIST, PROVINCIAL SYSTEMIC THERAPY

Reporting to the Provincial Programs Manager, this role will support key initiatives within the Provincial Systemic Therapy Program.
This role will predominantly work remotely, however, the successful candidate is expected to live within the community of one of the existing regional centres. Due to the nature of the role, the ability to travel is also required.
The Clinical Informatics Nursing Process Specialist is responsible for leading and supporting clinical work flow design and change initiatives in support of the development and prioritization of the clinical information solutions for Provincial Systemic Therapy with a particular lens on ensuring nursing practice and impacts are understood and integrated in a multidisciplinary team environment. This includes prioritization and escalation of change requests / issues, managing the workflow, build and validation of new systemic policies, pre-printed orders, order sets and protocols.
Applying a broad range of both clinical and informatics knowledge and experience, the Clinical Informatics Nursing Process Specialist provides direction and leadership to staff and works collaboratively with clinical and business stakeholders to support change and is the responsible person for coordinating approval and workflow management of the Chemotherapy Data Dictionary, and access programs such as Compassionate Access Program and the Special Access Programs for treatment. The Clinical Informatics Nursing Process Specialist will be responsible to ensure appropriate clinical input and stakeholder engagement for all clinical decision support tools and documents in Systemic Therapy.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the strategy, development and implementation of clinical workflow design and change management initiatives to support clinical and business practice in the maintenance, adoption and implementation of existing and new policies, pre-printed order’s, order sets, and protocols, including clinical content of the Chemotherapy Data Dictionary.
  • Review and lead clinical methodology and process for nursing resource impact analysis, including keeping methodology relevant and following best practice within the Chemotherapy Data Dictionary. Provide clinical expertise on creation of clinical protocols and tools.
  • Provide approval and workflow management of special access and compassionate access programs for systemic therapy.
  • Provide direction, interpretation and leadership to all clinical staff related to the Compassionate Access Program and the Special Access Programs by giving advice and providing recommendations and guidance in situations that require interpretation and judgment.
  • Act as a change agent/escalation point for clinical issues and constraints in the identification, development, planning, implementation, and sustainment of clinical informatics strategies in support of quality patient care and professional practice.
  • Act as a liaison with professional practice nursing regarding education needs, priorities for new protocols and developing appropriate resource planning to support those needs. Evaluates learning programs using applicable methodology and data.
  • Lead and support teams to develop clinical data/documentation and workflow standardization across all BC Cancer facilities.
  • Incorporate clinical informatics research and evidence-based knowledge into practice.
