Description:
We are looking for highly skilled Speech & Language Therapist to lead the AAC service here in Powys Teaching Health Board. We are offering a permanent 1.0 whole time equivalent position.
You will be responsible for leading and developing the AAC service, providing expert advice and second opinions for both adults and children with communication difficulties who have been identified as potential AAC users.
The post holder will be responsible for delivering training in AAC to patients/families/speech & language therapy colleagues and other health and social care professionals, across a variety of different settings including in-patient community hospitals, outpatient clinics, schools, and patients homes.
PTHB Speech and Language Therapists are a friendly and compassionate team who are passionate about providing a high-quality service despite the geographical challenges, and are excited about welcoming in a new team member who will bring patient centred initiatives and evidenced based practice to support the delivery of our AAC community service.
The base of the successful post holder can be negotiated; however this role is a pan Powys and will include an element of travel.
You will act as an expert practitioner, acting as a source of expertise, demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge and skills within the AAC field across multiple settings within the children’s , adult and ALD Speech and Language Therapy teams, providing highly specialist support and management of patients with AAC needs.
You will provide a consultative, advisory service to clients, carers and a range of service providers within the locality and to other professionals.
You will coordinate the AAC service within Powys Teaching Health Board whilst promoting and evaluating the service.
AAC provision within Wales focuses on collaboration, working with colleagues across the 7 health boards to deliver an excellent and equitable service. You will also work closely with the National Centre for Electronic and Assistive Technology who provide powered AAC, environmental controls and computer access support. This brings with it opportunities to contribute to service development and initiatives at a local and national level.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post. Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
