The Acute & Emergency Medicine Care Group is pleased to be able to offer an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated individual to join our team. The successful candidate will be directly responsible for the oversight of clinical quality and safety standards across the nursing teams and wider clinical services within Acute & Emergency Medicine.
This Clinical Matron Role will be predominately responsible for covering services and specialist nurses that fall within Acute Stroke and Older People’s Services, working alongside other Clinical Matrons in the care group.
The post holder will work closely with the Care Group Senior Leadership Team: the Head of Nursing, General Manager, and Clinical Directors, as well as the Deputy Heads of Nursing. The post holder will work directly with Specialty Leads and Service Managers to make up specialty-level triumvirates. The post holder will lead and support our frontline staff in order to drive forward the professional nursing agenda. You will be a Registered Nurse with experience in a senior leadership role and have a passion for high standards of patient care.
To be the conduit between the Care Group Triumvirate and the front-line clinical teams within their area of responsibility. Skilfully translating the organisational and Care Group objectives into operational reality and leading their implementation across their areas of responsibility. This role will take the lead on quality, safety, and patient experience across the specialty area: Acute Stroke & Older People’s services. Contributing to the Quality Improvement Plan as well as contributing to the Care Group agenda and having a portfolio that reflects this as delegated by the Deputy Head of Nursing. The Clinical Matron will have responsibility for leading the RCHT Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals Vision for the specialty, ensuring effective implementation of service objectives within the available resources.
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) is the main provider of acute and specialist care services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We serve a population of around 500,000 people - a figure that can increase significantly with visitors during the busiest times of the year. We employ approximately 6,700 staff and have a budget of approximately £580 million.
We are a teaching hospital in partnership with the University of Exeter Medical School, University of Plymouth School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Peninsula Dental School.
The Knowledge Spa on the Royal Cornwall Hospital site is the base for medical and nursing as well as ongoing education for health professions in clinical and non-clinical roles.
Keeping at the forefront of medical advances, we are continually developing our clinical services as well as our facilities and are committed to maximising the range of specialist care that can be offered locally. Allied to this is a growing reputation for research and innovation.
To be able to resolve clinical issues quickly and effectively; to minimise any negative impact on the quality of patient care and to monitor safety within their areas of responsibility by reviewing and triangulating information derived from multiple metrics and advising the Care Group senior leadership team when issues are identified.
To develop the professional practice of the non-medical clinical workforce whilst working closely with the Learning and Development Department, enabling access to education and training programmes to ensure that they are fit to practice and have access to CPD.
To engage with the wider community to promulgate best practice and represent the organisation on local, regional, and national committees or working groups where appropriate for specialty and service developments.
To work in partnership with colleagues and the Heads of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions to ensure that there is an effective communication pathway for ‘Ward to Board’ and ‘Board to Ward’ reporting.
The post holder will be responsible for the line management of non-medical clinical staff and a delegated specified budget - this supports the effective delivery of the Care Group key performance indicators.
