Description:
The Clinical Support Services Directorate have an exciting opportunity for an inspirational and supportive clinical nurse specialist to join the current team within Endocrinology . This is a new role that will add to a specialist nationally renowned endocrinology service and the post holder will have the opportunity to develop this role further. The post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to the care of patients with common and rare conditions in endocrinology. The Christie is a large cancer hospital and a significant proportion of the role will be involved in the management of patients with cancers of the endocrine system as well as endocrine complications of other cancer or cancer treatments.
The postholder will be working in a very supportive environment with an experienced consultant and nursing team whilst also having the opportunity to continue to look for opportunities to further develop nursing practice.
The post holder will be required to collaborate within the endocrinology team and amongst other specialities at The Christie, for example, oncology and surgery.
The postholder will need to have the ability to deal with challenging situations in a fast paced environment in a professional and calm manner.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist will work in collaboration with medical teams within endocrinology, practising to clearly defined protocols, and developing their scope of professional practice to meet the needs of the service.
The post holder will be expected to take up the Key Worker’s role for endocrinology patients, providing support, specialist education, training and information for patients and their carer’s, as well as other health care professionals. The post holder will effectively contribute to the development of the Endocrinology specialist nurse service, and communicate with other colleagues at the referring associate centres(including internally) and units to ensure a streamlined care pathway. There will be opportunities to attend multidisciplinary team meetings to supplement the collaborative care that is offered to patients.

EDUCATION & RESEARCH
Learning needs, plan implement and evaluate programmes of education to meet identified need.
Participate in the education of pre and post- registered health care professionals/medical staff.
Ensure own compliance with regard to mandatory training and revalidation requirements.
Address specific health targets related to own area of practice; e.g. NICE, Improving Outcomes guidance and Department of Health Guidelines.
Receives clinical supervision as part of own professional development.
Maintain up to date skills, knowledge and awareness of professional issues.
Participate in planned programmes of appraisal.
