Description:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Symptom Control and Palliative Care team at the Royal Marsden Hospital as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and we are inviting expressions of interest for the post.
The successful applicant will be expected to work, cross site at both Chelsea and Sutton, as part of a multi-professional team in assessing and advising patients with palliative care needs, their families/carers and other healthcare professionals. Evaluating interventions and adjusting them accordingly will be part of the role on a day-to-day basis. He/she will also be involved in informal teaching and supporting junior nurses and doctors as well as taking part in formal teaching at the School of Nursing and on the wards. Audit and research will be undertaken jointly with other members of the Symptom Control & Palliative care team.He/she should have a post-registration qualification relevant to the specialty and a minimum of three years oncology or palliative care experience.

The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty. In addition, the post holder will be required to liaise with their peers across the Trust, the divisional management team and appropriate corporate directorates and teams. The post holder will be expected to liaise with colleagues external to the Trust and national networks as appropriate to the specialty.

To provide professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the care of the patient with palliative care needs, acting as a resource to provide information and support to patients, carers and staff.
To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports nursing practice within palliative care.
To lead and innovate nursing practice in symptom control & palliative care both within the Trust and through local networks.
To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary health care team so as to achieve a synchronised specialist service .
To provide informal and formal teaching, e.g. academic courses provided by the School of Nursing
